Fox Sports Southwest:
Johnny Football is going to keep being Johnny Football.
Johnny Manziel said that nobody from Texas A&M has talked to him about changing his lifestyle, which has seen the Heisman Trophy winner tweet pictures of himself with handfuls of cash at an Oklahoma Casino, sitting courtside at various NBA games and holding a bottle of champagne with a sparkler hanging out of his mouth in recent weeks.
"I don't feel like I'm doing anything extreme or doing anything different," Manziel said Thursday night, according to College Station, TX newspaper, The Eagle. "I'm getting everything I need to get done in the classroom, football-wise I'm taking care of the things that I need to do in my life first and foremost.
"Then I'm having a good time with the free time that I do have in my life."
Reports circulated shortly after the pictures from the casino after the party in Dallas after the Aggies defeated Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl that the school sat down with Manziel's parents and told him that he needs to "grow up."
"I told them he's no longer a freshman, and he's no longer a sophomore, junior or senior," Texas A&M Athletic Director Eric Hyman told The San Antonio Express-Times. "He is a Heisman."
According to Johnny Football Thursday night, that message has not been relayed directly back to him yet.
But, in light of the situation at Notre Dame and the trouble that social media can bring a player as high profile as Manziel, he did say that you have to be careful with what you post.
"The internet is a tricky, dangerous place for sure," Manziel said. "You see that time and time again."
BEST OF MAXIM
Oklahoma Sooners defensive coordinator Mike Stoops had some pretty telling comments about Johnny Manziel after he won the Heisman Trophy.
“They’re gonna be tough to deal with. If they can keep him out of jail or keep him eligible, he’s gonna be pretty good,” Stoops said.
“If they can keep him off the Twitter, he might win three or four Heismans. He’ll have that type...
Johnny Manziel got a speeding ticket in Ennis, Texas recently.
This in itself is not a news story. But when a judge in Ennis goes on Facebook and taunts the Texas A&M quarterback, to going so far as to reveal he, a judge, has already decided Manziel was guilty, and made the mistake of having to add an extra comment that said "allegedly," and it turns out the judge...
What’s a week in January 2013 without talking about the activities of one Johnny Manziel? A municipal judge in Ennis, Texas, the dishonorable Lee Johnson, apparently tattled on the Texas A&M Aggies star quarterback. He didn’t tip of a newspaper, a TV station, or ESPN, no, he went on Facebook and gave what can only be described as a not so cryptic message. For what it is worth...
Texas A&M Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel says his ''mind was blown'' when he learned of the Manti Te'o girlfriend hoax.
Manziel has gotten to know Te'o, Notre Dame's Heisman runner-up, while attending various award ceremonies over the last month and a half. The pair spent time together this weekend at the Walter Camp Awards dinner.
Is there anything else ESPN wants Johnny Manziel to prove? The guy can even provide color commentary before a Texas A&M basketball game. What did Manziel have to say. No idea. We don’t watch Thursday night college basketball in January. Rules are rules.
As for the game, Florida thumped the Aggies, 68-47. We’ll assume Johnny left early for a College Station power hour.
It’s never too early to prognosticate in the world of sports, so it should surprise nobody that CBS Sports has released its first set of preseason power rankings for the 2013 college football season just over a week after the 2012 campaign’s conclusion.
What may surprise some, however, is the team that sits atop these rankings.
The Aggies of Texas A&M, fresh off a Heisman...
