PLAYERS: Matt Barkley
TEAMS: USC Trojans
They always say you go pro or cash in when you are your hottest.  USC quarterback Matt Barkley is finding that out the hard way after witness his preseason #1 ranked stumble to a terrible 7-6 record. Barkley who had an unbelievable 2011 season threw 15 interceptions this year and looked frazzled at times.  Barkley is fighting the stereotypes though and on ESPN’s The Herd, said “he’s still a top-tier quarterback.” “People have been looking at stats over the past year, who’s hot, who’s not,” Barkley said Friday on “The Herd” on ESPN Radio. “We didn’t finish the year strong, I know that. But that doesn’t mean I’m any less of a quarterback this year. I’m excited just to put that back in people’s minds. I haven’t lost any confidence in myself and haven’t doubted my ability to play quarterback, not once.” Barkley who hurt his shoulder and missed his teams final 2 ballgames, is not sure if he’ll throw at the NFL Combine, but will throw at the USC Pro Day. “It seems to be the trend not to (throw at the combine), and I don’t feel that I have to,” Barkley said. “We’ll see when that time gets closer. It will be more of a game-day decision as to whether I’m going to. I want to do as much as I can. … I don’t feel I have to necessarily prove anything.” Barkley will still be the second quarterback drafted, and depending on how he and Geno Smith workout, he could be a top 15 pick. Not bad at all.

According to Damond Talbot of NFL Draft Zone, even though it seems like Matt Barkley’s stock has dramatically dropped since last season.  Some NFL scouts still believe he’s the top quarterback in this year’s draft. 2013 NFL Draft: Matt Barkley may not throw

Former USC quarterback Matt Barkley will (apparently) not be throwing at the 2013 NFL Draft Combine. Technically, he’s “not sure” if he’ll throw. Either way, this isn’t earth-shattering news for a top quarterback prospect who expects to go high in the subsequent draft. Except Barkley isn’t expected to go high in the draft. While he is the top-ranked quarterback according...
