Big Ten rivals reveling in the abundance of toxic headlines surrounding the Ohio State football program should take time to savor the next six weeks or so.
That's about all the time they have left before the Buckeyes pull a very large rabbit out of the hat they've spent the last 10 months soiling.
It's beyond extremely possible, bordering on a virtual certainty, that some time around Dec. 1, OSU President E. Gordon Gee will step in front of a microphone and suddenly sound a whole lot smarter than he has in awhile.
The man who in March voiced the hope that rogue coach Jim Tressel wouldn't "dismiss me," and who Monday portrayed his scandal-laden athletic department as the "poster child for compliance," can make all that vanish like so much flatulence in the wind.
All it will take is one simple sentence: "I'm pleased to welcome Urban Meyer as the next coach at The Ohio State University."
Then Gee will flash a mischievous grin, as if to say to the rest of the conference, "Gotcha, fellas...
