The Maxwell Football Club released the Maxwell Award Semi-Finalist Ballot today. In total there are 9 QB’s, 4 RB’s and 3 WR’s. Consequently all of the 3 wide outs have their QB on the ballot (Landry Jones, Matt Barkley, Brandon Weeden). There’s so much talent on this ballot and definitely some future NFL stars. Cam Newton ran away with the Maxwell Award last year, but it’s going to be an extremely close vote this year. Let’s take a look at some of the frontrunners…

Trent Richardson- It’s not easy to replace Mark Ingram, but Trent Richardson somehow made us forget about that Heisman winner. Richardson is a force on offense, and is leading the Crimson Tide to a perfect record. On 149 rushing attempts he has 989 yards (6.6 ypc), and 17 touchdowns. And out of the backfield he’s caught 18 balls for 212 yards and a touchdown, he can do it all. Roll Tide.

Landry Jones- Last week Landry Jones broke Sam Bradford’s school touchdown record when he threw his 90th career touchdown. Landry Jones has 26 passing touchdowns this season with 10 of them going to Semi-Finalist Ryan Broyles. Landry has an incredible 158.8 QB Rating, which is disgusting considering he’s thrown the ball 355 times this year (3rd most in the FBS), it can’t surprise anyone that he’s already thrown for over 3,000 yards.

Robert Griffin III- If you didn’t hop on the RG3 bandwagon after he led Baylor to a victory Week 1 against TCU, it’s not too late (it is a little too late but don’t worry about it). Last year as a Sophomore Griffin III threw for 21 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, and this season he already has 23 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions. Griffin III’s stats are there, he just needs to lead this Baylor team to some more victories, unfortunately the Baylor Defense isn’t as good as RG3.

Andrew Luck- When you have NFL fans making signs and wearing t-shirts that say,  “Suck For Luck” you know you have some respect. But that respect is definitely deserved, Luck didn’t enter the draft last year, gave up millions of dollars, and instead chose to play another year at Stanford.  And this year Luck has led Stanford to a perfect start. He has 23 touchdowns on the year and should easily surpass his touchdown total last year of 28. Luck’s a first overall pick waiting to happen…and it would happen even if he were playing in the SEC, end of debate.

Tajh Boyd- Only die-hard Clemson fans could have called that 8-0 start, unfortunately there undefeated start had to come to an end. But Clemson is now a top team in the NCAA and Tajh Boyd is responsible. The Sophomore QB is 196-320 with 2,674 yards, he’s thrown 25 touchdowns, and rushed for 4 touchdowns. As long as Tajh Boyd keeps playing this well, and utilizes the explosive freshman Sammy Watkins, Boyd can lead the Tigers to an ACC Title.
