One of the problems with coaching at places like Michigan is dealing with expectations. About a week and a half ago, I wrote a piece about Nebraska fans and their sense of entitlement that lit a fire under the Husker fan base. Most of what I said in that article could be true for Michigan as well. There are whispers around the web that indicate that Michigan head football coach Brady Hoke may be on the hot seat. Even if he’s not actually on the hot seat in the eyes of the University of Michigan, his employer, the fact that it’s even being mentioned indicates that a considerable amount of Michigan fans and media feel like he should be. That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Less than three seasons ago, Michigan fired Rich Rodriguez after he was only able to win 15 games in three seasons. Obviously, winning five games a year at any school, let alone Michigan, is enough to get you canned. Enter Brady Hoke, a midwestern guy who knows Michigan and Michigan football. Hoke has spent...

McGary to sit out Michigan's opener

Associated Press Preseason All-American center Mitch McGary will sit out Michigan's season opener, Friday night vs. UMass Lowell at Crisler Center. Asked on WTKA-AM (1050) Thursday morning whether McGary would play, Beilein said, No, he wont. McGary, who's nursing a lower-back condition, didn't play in the Wolverines' two exhibition games either, but Beilein sounded...

McGary won't play in opener for No. 7 Michigan

Michigan center Mitch McGary will miss Friday night's season opener against UMass-Lowell because of a lingering back problem. Coach John Beilein didn't offer many details about McGary's condition or progress. B1G Things: Power Rankings

1. Ohio State:  Not a debate and the only intrigue remaining is how badly will Urban Meyer house Michigan and will it be enough to get Brady Hoke fired? 2. Wisconsin:  This is a close call between them and Michigan State, but I go with the Badgers because I think they could move the ball some on MSU and Wisconsin’s defense is good enough to where MSU would struggle to score more...

The Michigan Defense: Where are we now?

Greg Mattison came to Michigan with the job of restoring pride in the Wolverine defense. Before he got to campus some three years ago, the Wolverine defense was terrible; 110th overall as matter of fact in 2010. Maize and Blue fans expected it could take awhile for the defense to come around. But it was actually the spot of greatest improvement right away in Brady Hoke’s first...
