Derrick Green (Photo credit: Richmond Times-Dispatch) Michigan Football recruiting received a big boost on Saturday when 5-star running back Derrick Green (Richmond, Virginia) announced his commitment to the University of Michigan. Green is generally considered the top running back in the nation and one of the elite recruits in the 2013 class. He is a 6-foot, 220 pound wrecking ball of a runner who will thrive in the Big Ten. The Colonial District Offensive Player of the Year, Green rushed for 1,285 yards and 20 touchdowns. He seldom played in the second half of games because his Hermitage team was so dominant and often had commanding leads early in the games. Green choose Michigan over Auburn and Tennessee. Here is an excerpt of his scouting report on ESPN Green is quick to get downhill and attack the hole and he gains momentum fast. He follows blocks well and cuts tightly off through the hole…Displays very good power to break tackles. He is an aggressive runner who drags tacklers and finishes runs falling forward. He will get the extra yards while wearing down a defense. A durable tough guy who likes contact. Defenders are not going to tackle him high when he breaks free into open field… Green is the second running back to join Michigan’s 2013 recruiting class, Deveon Smith being the other. With Fitz Toussaint recovering from a serious knee injury, there is an opportunity for early playing time for Green or Smith.
