PLAYERS: Max Bullough
EAST LANSING — On Wednesday, the jury spoke and the verdict was in. In this case, however, the jury was the Michigan State football team and the verdict was the captains for the upcoming season. Michigan State head football coach Mark Dantonio tweeted  that senior middle linebacker Max Bullough, senior defensive back Darqueze Dennard and senior offensive guard Blake Treadwell were voted team captains for the 2013 campaign. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as these three seniors were the student-athletes that Dantonio chose to bring to the Big Ten Football Media Day in Chicago. While Dennard and Treadwell have been named captains for the first, and last time, Bullough has been named a captain for the second time in two years. Along side Bullough last season was senior linebacker Chris Norman and junior quarterback Andrew Maxwell. Maxwell, now a senior, was more than likely left off of this list due to the four-way quarterback battle that is currently taking place in MSU’s preseason camp in which he is potentially fighting for his college career. MSU’s quest to become Big Ten champions begins Friday,  Aug. 30 when they welcome Western Michigan to Spartan Stadium for an 8 p.m. matchup.

Max Bullough: Indeed Mr. Michigan State Spartans

Michigan State has a tenacious defense taking to the gridiron this fall. And the leader of that fearsome defense is OLB Max Bullough; who blood is as green and white as it gets. He’s a third-generation Spartan, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Hank (guard, 1952-54) and father Shane (linebacker, 1983-86) who played football at Michigan State. Bullough has the word “SPARTAN”...

Michigan State’s QB choice isn’t as tough a decision as it looks

I’d like to say this is a good problem for Mark Dantonio, but I don’t speak with that much confidence. With less than two weeks before the Michigan State Spartans open their season against the Western Michigan Broncos, they are without a starting quarterback. In fact, the decision is getting murkier the longer the process goes into summer practices. When the Spartans broke Spring...

Dantonio says he will reveal staring QB - later

(Eds: APNewsNow.) Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio says he cannot reveal which of the four quarterbacks competing for the Spartans' starting job will take the first snap in the opener. Dantonio says he ''can't let the cat out of the bag'' before telling the winning candidate he has won the job. Senior Andrew Maxwell held the starting role all of last season...
