Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio is not putting up with what several of his players tweeted Saturday night regarding Denard Robinson’s performance against Alabama.

“Our guys need to keep their mouths shut,” Dantonio said, “especially those that aren’t even playing.”

Mark Dantonio addressed the media at Spartan Stadium on Tuesday.

Walk-on safety Kyle Artinian, freshman linebacker Jamal Lyles, sophomore running back Nick Hill, and junior linebacker Denicos Allen all insulted Robinson on Twitter during Alabama’s 41-14 massacre over the Michigan Wolverines Saturday night.

“I didn’t see much different when we played the University of Alabama a couple years ago, it’s tough,” Dantonio said, referring to his team’s 49-7 brutal loss to the Crimson Tide in the Capital One Bowl on January 1, 2011.

Dantonio added that he would address his team during today’s practice and that there would be consequences.

“I think it’s disrespectful,” Dantonio said. “I don’t think that’s something that we should be doing, so I’ll deal with that on my end. But the credit goes to the person in the arena. That’s the way I look at things. Michigan has a tremendous football storied tradition.”

Dantonio added that he would not ban Twitter from his team.

“It’s America,” he said. “But there are consequences that go along with that. I’m not going to say there’s not free speech in our program, but I think that I’ll say what I’ve said all along. You can’t be prideful. You need to approach this game with humility. When it becomes personal, that crosses the line.”

“Guys know the ramifications of it,” said junior quarterback Andrew Maxwell. “On Saturday night there were a couple instances of poor judgment. I didn’t see exactly what was said, so I can’t really comment on what was said or why they said it. But we know the ramifications and the responsibility as players that what we see will be seen by a lot of people and we need to exercise better judgment.”

The Spartans have won the past four meetings with the Wolverines, and have shut down Robinson pretty handily the last two years. Both quarterbacks, Maxwell and Robinson, struggled in their first game this year. Both, however, will perform better as the season goes on.

Michigan and Michigan State will both compete for the Legends Division this year, but my thoughts are still the same from my breakdown I wrote on July 23.

But that’s still over a month-and-a-half away. The result will do the talking.
