They may not be taking a 14 hour bus ride right now, but there are plenty of reasons that 15 of Michigan State's 22 starters should be bitter about playing the Nebraska Cornhuskers in East Lansing tomorrow. Along with getting drubbed 24-3 in Lincoln last year, the Spartans have never beaten the Cornhuskers in their brief history as conference rivals.  Last year's squad was ground down early and often as the Huskers pounded the ball out of an option look all day long. Taylor Martinez, unlike most mobile quarterbacks that play against MSU, was able to run free and confuse the Spartan defense all day. Sparty's inability to lock up Martinez on the ground incidentally made him a dual threat, as he was able to use his above-average receiving corps and tight ends to their fullest. Martinez's ability to run the option made sure the defense was tired and also ate up the clock, allowing minimal time for NFL draftee Kirk Cousins to operate. Although Michigan State football ...

Michigan State football: Spartans lose another tough one

On Saturday, the Michigan State Spartans football team welcomed the 20th ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers into town for a late season B1G matchup. The game was fought long and hard and the roundabout theme of the game would soon be centered around penalties. Nebraska was penalized 9 times for 72 yards while Michigan State was penalized 9 times for 100 yards. As a result of this, a game...

Mich. St. players rip officials for call

Several Michigan State players went off on the officiating after their loss to Nebraska. They were upset with a pass interference call that went against them.

Michigan State- 24 Nebraska- 28 Rapid Reactions

Ok. I expected MSU to drop this one, but not like this. I expected a low-scoring affair in which the Spartans offense couldn’t pull one out. Instead, the Spartans’ offense finally performed and put up 24 but the defense couldn’t come up in the clutch and gave up 28. Ugh. Well, here’s what I have to say: -That pass interference called on Darqueze Dennard, from what I saw...

Don’t Blame The Loss On The Referees, But…

Darqueze Dennard played possibly the game of his career. 2 picks (one of which would be a 96-yard pick-six, but we’ll cover that later) and 4 tackles. Also, late in the game, Dennard had a clutch play, denying Nebraska wideout Kenny Bell a touchdown reception, only to be called back because he had “interfered” with Bell. At first glance on the scoreboard at Spartan Stadium...

Michigan State vs. Nebraska Recap: Meet The New Loss, Same As The Old Loss

As the pass from Taylor Martinez floated into the waiting hands of a receiver in the corner of the endzone directly beneath our seats, I can’t say I experienced a whole lot of shock. My son, with the optimism inherent in youth, was a bit crestfallen but all I could do was sigh and think of all the close games that haven’t gone the Spartans’ way this year. Throughout most of...

Spartans let lead slip in 28-24 loss to Nebraska

Darqueze Dennard intercepted a pass and appeared to run it back for a touchdown - then the return was negated by a penalty. Later, Michigan State allowed a 38-yard pass on fourth-and-10 when a stop would have put the game out of reach. Finally, when Dennard seemed to have broken up a third-down throw to the end zone, he was called for pass interference. At that point, the Spartans...

Michigan State DB Johnny Adams flops but fails to draw penalty (Video)

Michigan State Spartans defensive back Johnny Adams tried to draw a penalty against Nebraska Cornhuskers wide receiver Kenny Bell after they tussled a bit after the whistle during Saturday's college football game at East Lansing. Michigan State’s CB Johnny Adams looks for a call by flopping (Video)

Michigan State’s CB Johnny Adams ended up being a goat during the game, because of a block in the back penalty that he took during Darqueze Dennard’s interception return for a touchdown that had the touchdown called back.  The TD would have all but sealed the game and instead kept the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the game.Meanwhile, he had this epic flop in the first half looking...
