Amara Darboh was expected to play a critical role on the Michigan Wolverines’ receiver-starved roster this season. On to Plan B … Michigan announced Wednesday that Darboh, who reportedly had not practiced since Saturday’s team scrimmage, would miss the entire 2013 season with a foot injury that requires surgery. “I love Amara, and just hate it for him, how hard he worked through the offseason and fall camp to earn a starting role,” head coach Brady Hoke said in a statement. “We’ll rally around him like a family does and help him get through this difficult time.” Darboh saw limited action and finished with no catches as a true freshman, but the athletic 6-foot-2 receiver was expected to join senior Jeremy Gallon in the starting lineup. Instead, the onus will fall on some combination of redshirt freshman Jehu Chesson and seniors Joe Reynolds and Jeremy Jackson to pick up the slack. Though Michigan had not really unleashed Darboh as a receiving threat in an actual game yet, all indications from practices were that he had taken to his role and was ready to provide a complement for the reliable Gallon. QB Devin Gardner now will have to find someone else to work with on the outside … and do so before Central Michigan arrives at the Big House in 10 days.
