When Kliff Kingsbury was hired as the head coach at Texas Tech this past winter, it was lauded as both a steal for the school and a win for young bros looking for a big break everywhere. After all, it’s not often that a school takes a chance in giving a plush head coaching job to any 33-year-old, let alone one that walks around with the swag of your average 30-something at happy hour every Friday night.   Still, questions did remain about Kingsbury’s hire, specifically on whether or not he was able to discipline a group of football players that were barely older than he was. Only apparently on Tuesday we got an answer to the question of: “What happens when a bro stops being polite and starts getting real?” And we got it in the most hilarious way possible. Above is a note Kingsbury left for all his players, as they get set to leave campus for the rest of May. It comes via the Twitter feed of Texas Tech offensive lineman Alfredo Morales, and well, it’s awesome. It reads as follows: *Also we advise you to be active over break as you will need to be ready to work once June rolls around. Sitting at the house playing COD/2K13/Madden against 12 year olds online doesn’t suffice as “activity” even if you claim to “wreck shop.” While we’re not sure what “wreck shop” means, what we are sure of is that this note is that this may be the single coolest thing that has happened this off-season. Still, what we’re more curious to know is whether this warning applies to the 33-year-old coach in addition to his 20-something year old players.   After all, doesn’t Kliff Kingsbury just look like the kind of guy that loves a good game of “Call of Duty” every now and again? RUMORS & GOSSIP

The Pittsburgh Pirates’ season should turn around soon

Following two straight NL Wild Card berths, expectations were high for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2015. But thusfar, those expectations haven’t been realized. Through the first month of the season, the Pirates are 12-14, eight games back of the white-hot St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. But because of how top-heavy the National League is this season, the Pirates are solidly...

Sanchez absolutely believes he can win Eagles starting gig

As Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach Chip Kelly announced last week, there will be a quarterback competition in Philly which will include a battle between Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez and even Tim Tebow. However, the last quarterback to officially play in the lead role was Sanchez who started for the Eagles’ last eight games in 2014. Probably feeling somewhat territorial, Sanchez...

Report: Michael Bennett wants Seahawks to trade him

This next story is a nice reminder that there’s a reason why we hear player rumors and report on them. Many of them turn out not to be true, but sometimes where there’s smoke there’s fire. A few weeks ago we passed along a report that Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett wanted to be traded to Dan Quinn’s Atlanta Falcons. That one was incorrect and the team denied...

Report: Duke’s Jahlil Okafor looks 'as lean as ever'

With the NBA Draft set to take place near the end of June, some of the top prospects in the country are currently in Santa Barbara, Calif., working out.  Duke’s Jahlil Okafor, the potential No. 1 overall selection, is among the crop of players preparing for the draft at P3 Applied Sports Science, a training center in California.  He reportedly looks pretty great.  At @P3sportscience...

Arum: Pacquiao would agree to rematch with Mayweather

If boxing fans want a rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, then they might get their wish.   Mayweather texted ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith on Tuesday that he’d be down for another 12 rounds, and it turns out Pacquiao’s camp shares the same sentiments. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael on Tuesday that he believes the two sides...

Report: NFL could punish Brady, ball boys in wake of report

The Ted Wells report into DeflateGate could result in punishment for the New England Patriots and possibly quarterback Tom Brady.   But that’s not all. After Wells’ report was released Wednesday, the NFL is considering discipline for Brady, locker room attendant Jim McNally and equipment assistant John Jastremski, a source close to the investigation told ESPN’s...

Justin Verlander was on the receiving end of some snarky social media backlash over the weekend when folks criticized him for a public outing with girlfriend Kate Upton. Verlander, currently...Read More The post Justin Verlander on social...

Bursting the NFL playoff expansion bubble

Hey, I have an idea. Let’s invite every NFL team into the playoffs! Sure. Why not? Talk about television revenue! So what if the Super Bowl falls on Mother’s Day? OK, that’s exaggeration for effect. But when Roger Goodell and the league start talking like expanding the postseason is only a matter of time, one must stop and consider if they care more about making money or...
