ESPN’s Mel Kiper has long been looked at as the guru of NFL mock drafts. A look at his big board has some similarities to that of CFU’s, but also some big differences. Todd McShay of ESPN and Scouts Inc. has Texas A&M offensive tackle Luke Joeckel as the top-rated player, like CFU. But Kiper went with Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, who McShay has second and I rated sixth overall. Kiper rated Joeckel as his fourth-best prospect. My reasons are simple. I really like Floyd’s strength, versatility and upside, but I just like the explosiveness and athleticism of Missouri’s Sheldon Richardson more. That’s why Richardson, whom I’ve known since his junior year of high school, is rated two spots ahead of Floyd. Kiper ranks Richardson, a 6-foot-2, 294-pound St. Louis native, at 12th. McShay completely devalues Richardson’s talent by having him 15th on the Scouts, Inc. big board. We all agree on Central Michigan offensive tackle Eric Fisher as the third-best prospect. At No. 2, wher

Johnny Manziel/Football/Americ a self-imposes a Twitter ban

After providing months of fodder for his haters to latch onto, Texas A&M superstar Johnny Manziel has decided to ban himself from Twitter for the time being.

Johnny Football on self-imposed Twitter ban

Heisman Trophy winner Johhny Manziel sees the writing on the wall. All of the tweets and photos of just about everything he does, whether it’s out at a bar, getting a phony Longhorns tattoo or partying at Mardi Gras, some people are up in arms about his so-called bad behavior. Now it’s time to fly a little under the radar. “I’ve kind of just shut it all off,” Manziel told...

Joker Phillips’ creepy tweet made creepier by Heath Ledger/Joker photoshop (pic)

Joker Phillips, who was fired by the Kentucky Wildcats on Nov. 4 but caught on as the wide receivers coach for the Florida Gators, sent out a tweet on Wednesday that is about as odd a thing that one likely will ever see tweeted by a football coach. Phillips, making the connection that he shares a nickname with the most heinous and mischievous of all Batman villains, made a creepy...

Joker Phillips evokes Batman's Joker to recruit

College football coaches work hard with recruiting, and they will use every tactic possible in order to attract them to their program. We already saw how new NC State’s Drew Hughes was stepping out of his comfort zone with his interesting hand written letters while trying to sound like a teenager. Then there is Joker Phillips of the Florida Gators. The new wide receiver coach for...

Kevin Sumlin Responds to Johnny Manziel Shoving an Assistant Coach

At a spring practice last Saturday for the Texas A&M Aggies there was a rather unpleasant scene on the sideline when a graduate assistant coach got in the face of quarterback Johnny Manziel who shoved him in return. Nothing further happened since the two were separated, but there was an issue now that needed to be responded to. Yes, you had an assistant that was inappropriate...

Mock NFL Draft: ESPN’s McShay changes Browns’ target to Dee Milliner

Jumping ship after months of having the Cleveland Browns pegged with a pass-rusher, ESPN’s NFL Draft expert Todd McShay says that the Orange and Brown will now land cornerback Dee Milliner with the sixth-overall pick this spring. Per McShay: Analysis: I wasn’t as high as some others on Browns QB Brandon Weeden during last year’s draft process, but even I believe he deserves...

Hardin, Phillips battling to start

Austin Hardin and Brad Phillips know what’s at stake. The Gators are replacing the best kicker in school history after Caleb Sturgis graduated last season, and there’s no clear idea of who will win the job. Sturgis leaves Gainesville third in the record books for points scored. Hardin and Phillips are trying to show enough consistency to earn this job on the practice field during...

As March draws to a close, football’s focus turns increasingly to the upcoming 2013 NFL draft, which is exactly one month away. The Philadelphia Eagles will get the spotlight early, selecting fourth due to their abysmal 4-12 2012 season. With the stakes so high, Philadelphia cannot afford to miss with their draft choice. This year’s draft will be different from that of 2012,...

Report: Chiefs to Pick Geno Smith, Dee Milliner, Luke Joeckel, Sharrif Floyd, Lane Johnson or Eric Fisher No. 1 in NFL Draft

It’s a tough year to have the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft. There’s no consensus best player at most of the premier positions, and there’s little difference in talent between the No. 1 player and the No. 25 player. That’s why the Chiefs have a tough decision to make at No. 1. Kansas City has narrowed their choices down to West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith, Alabama cornerback...

2013 NFL Draft: Manti Te’o Improved His 40 Time at Pro Day, Did Nothing to His Draft Stock

Much was made about Manti Te’o’s forty yard dash time at the NFL Combine in late February. His 4.82 time made national headlines that added to the trendy public bashing of the Notre Dame linebacker.  But that forty time wasn’t all that surprising to evaluators who watched him on film. His lack of great range and burst was apparent based on his play this season. Now...

NFL Fans: Stop Reading Mock Drafts!

STOP! Why are you wasting your time? The guy wrote that mock draft you just read likely knows no more about what way your team is leaning than you do. So why listen to him? Why read what he has to say? You have just as much chance of gathering accurate information by heading down to your local watering hole and chatting up the bartender and the regular at the end of the bar. There...
