The VitalsNFL Team: Atlanta FalconsPick Number: 22 (traded up from pick 30 with St. Louis)Player Name: Desmond TrufantPosition: CBSchool: WashingtonHeight/Weight: 6'0/190 lbs.  How is the fit?Trufant was traded up for by the Falcons for a reason. He fits a tremendous hole left by the departures of cornerbacks Dunta Robinson, Brent Grimes, and Chris Owens. Trufant is a fast, athletic cover player with great man skills and mirror ability. He plays with a swagger and short memory that cannot be coached. His two brothers both play in the NFL and he has great size/speed combination for the position. He steps in day 1 and starts for the Falcons. Trufant has great ball skills and really fits receivers for every inch on the field.  A better pick here would have been…I honestly had Trufant picked for the Falcons in my last mock draft, but I did think he was going to be gone. The better pick would have been Dee Milliner, but he was gone. The one player who could have helped in the same way, as far as an impact is concerned was Tank Carradine at defensive end. But the Falcons got their guy after Milliner, who I am sure the team would have loved to pick as well. The verdict:I love this pick. The Falcons had a very large need at corner with only Asante Samuel and Robert McClain penciled in as starters. That won’t cut it. Trufant is going to step in and play right away. The best thing that Trufant carries is that attitude that he can’t be beat. Even when he gets beat, he claims it was more or less not his fault and gets back up and grinds for another win on the next play. At the Senior Bowl he was the best DB on the field and I loved his passion to always compete. You won’t find a better fit for the style the Falcons like to play, besides maybe Milliner. But at pick 22, and not giving up much in order to move up and get him, the Falcons walk away with a starter and a win in the first round.
