Friday night the UFC Knights shocked the nation as the got an upset win on the road against No.8 Louisville Cardinals. I had this game on my upset alert and for once, I was right.  It was a great game to watch, hard hitting, great offense, great defense, it was probably the best in conference game the American Conference will have this year. Teddy Bridgewater had good game as expected but the offense sort of stalled out for a while in the second half and let the Knights back in the game. At one point Central Florida scored 24 unanswered against a good Louisville defense. Central Florida started this game slow and found themselves down 28-7. It looked as if the Knights were going to fall victim to Teddy Bridgewater and the No.8 Louisville Cardinals. With a combination of good offensive and defensive play the Knights got themselves right back in the game. Junior quarterback Blake Bortles played great as he completed 21 of 32 passes for 250 yards and 2 touchdowns, including the game winner. Junior running back Storm Johnson was a monster down the stretch. His 6’0”, 215-pound frame gave Louisville fits as he carried the football 18 times for 109 yards and a touchdown.  Storm averaged 6.1 yards a carry and was just too much for Louisville. Freshman running back William Stanback, Johnson’s backup was also productive as he had 9 carries for 65 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Knights rushed for 196 total yards as a team. Defensive lineman Miles Pace forced a fumble in the third that changed the game. Blake Bortles led his team on an 11 play, 75-yard drive late to win the game. He threw the game winning touchdown to wide receiver Jeff Godfrey with only 23 seconds left on the clock. The No.8 Louisville Cardinals started this game off hot; Teddy Bridgewater was 16-19 for over 200 yards and 2 touchdowns at halftime. Teddy passed for 341 yards as h completed 29 of 38 passes for 41 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Louisville offense was on a roll until a third quarter fumble shifted momentum in Central Florida’s way and never really got it back. Junior wide receiver Eli Rodgers was all over the field as he has 10 catches for 95 yards and a touchdown. The Louisville defense just was overpowered in the second half by UCF’s rushing attack. Safety Calvin Pryor had a bone-crushing hit in the first quarter as well as a circus catch interception that was also in the first. After letting the Knights score 24 unanswered points, the Cardinals went down field and took the lead back. The defense then let Blake Bortles bring the win home for the Knights and upset the Cardinals at home. Overall, this was in my top 5 of games played this season. After beating a top 10 team on the road UCF should earn a top 25 spot in the rankings. Louisville is now out of the national championship conversation and this loss might have hurt Teddy Bridgewater’s Heisman hopes. With a 5-1 record Central Florida has proven they are a very good team. Louisville, now 6-1 might not have national championship hopes anymore but they can definitely still have a great season.
