(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By LARRY LAGE AP Sports Writer Michigan has given up just 23 points in three Big Ten matchups and fewer than 10 points a game since opening the season with shaky performances against Alabama and Air Force. Safety Jordan Kovacs says the defense is feeling more confident each week, but doesn't want to get too comfortable and complacent. Brady Hoke will make sure his players stay humble. He said the defense wasn't near what it needs to be to win a Big Ten championship after holding Michigan State to 10 points in a two-point win Saturday. Two days later, Hoke wouldn't say how much the defense has improved. No. 20 Michigan, leaders of the Big Ten's Legends Division, plays at Nebraska on Saturday night.

He’s Back! The Michigan Governor’s Paul Bunyan Trophy In Perspective

Michigan Wolverines celebrate with the Paul Bunyan trophy for the first time in 5 years after their 12-10 victory over the Spartans on Saturday (Image/MGoBlue.com)As I polish the Governor of Michigan’s Paul Bunyan trophy, I realize two things: 1) This is an ugly trophy, and 2) Saturday’s win was just as ugly on many levels. As I predicted last week, the Spartans brought everything...

RB sentenced in drunken-driving case

Michigan running back Fitzgerald Toussaint has been ordered to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, pay fines and undergo random drug and alcohol tests. The junior was sentenced Tuesday by Saline District Judge Kirk Tabbey in a drunken driving case stemming from a July arrest. He pleaded guilty in August to operating a vehicle while visibly impaired after facing the more serious...

Michigan Football recruiting update: Denzel Ward commits

Michigan Football picked up their second commitment from the 2014 class on Saturday. Mammoth offensive linemen Denzel Ward (Chicago, Illinois) committed. He joins Michael Ferns as the only other member of Michigan’s 2014 class.2013 commit Logan Tuley-Tillman probably deserves an assist on this commitment as he struck up a friendship with Ward and became an extra recruiter for the Wolverines.

Kovacs talks the D vs MSU, Nebraska (video)

Michigan senior safety Jordan Kovacs talks the media as the Wolverines prepare for Nebraska this Saturday. The defensive captain discusses the secondary play versus Michigan State, the secondary focus on not giving up big plays, preparing for QB Taylor Martinez and the rest of the Nebraska offensive skill players, digesting pre snap plays, and more.***

The Michigan Medley was in the wrong stadium on Saturday

I have a confession. I wasn’t perched high atop Michigan Stadium, looking down on Michigan’s thrilling win on Saturday from the press box. I wasn’t even in Ann Arbor. Nor was I watching the game from the comforts of my own couch. Instead, I was viewing it on a 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED screen in section 16, row 34, seat 22 of Notre Dame Stadium. How I watched the Michigan game...

This Week In Celebrity Sports Analysis: Verne Troyer Called Out The Michigan Wolverines

It’s strange, as I was settling in to watch college football this weekend, I found myself wondering: “Hey, you know who are two people that we haven’t heard from in a while? Brian McFayden and Verne Troyer.” The former, of course, rose to mild prominence as a VJ on MTV’s Total Request Live in the early 2000s, before the music network completely phased out music, and then...

My 5 Takes From Michigan State

A celebration, 5 years in the making. As the clock struck all zeros after Michigan State's failed attempt at a lateral-a-thon on the final play, 4 seasons of in-state misery melted away in a jubilant celebration for the Michigan football team. It was chaos on the field after the game. But as always, the team ended up in the northwest corner of the field, to celebrate with...

Hurricanes Prospect Update: NCAA (10/19 - 10/21)

Last week, I said that Michigan's Phil Di Giuseppe had the best personal performance out of the Hurricanes NCAA prospect pool but Mark Alt's Minnesota Golden Gophers had the best team performance. It's now a week later and Di Giuseppe now holds both titles as he picked up a pair of assists in the Wolverines 6-3 over Bentley University while Alt was held without a point...

Michigan earns 900th program win with 12-10 victory over Michigan State

Michigan head coach Brady Hoke has certainly done a lot to finally move the Michigan program in the right direction once again. Last season he was able to finally end the team’s long losing streak to Ohio State, accumulating a winning record and ultimately get to a BCS bowl game at the end of the season. Heading into 2012 Brady Hoke surely wants to capitalize on last season’s...

2015 Intro: Michigan targeting versatile Florida guard Dwayne Bacon

Dwayne Bacon is one of the more versatile prospects in the class of 2015. He has a complete arsenal of skills: he can slash, he can dish and his handle is impressive. He’s also 6-foot-6. That’s a big reason why the Lakeland, Florida native is regarded as a top-50 player early in his recruitment. In a recent interview with UM Hoops, Bacon said that, despite his ability at the...

Wolverines back to work after defeating Spartans

The Spartans have been beaten. Now Michigan can get serious. Beating Michigan State 12-10 was a huge step forward for the Wolverines, but not just because it ended a record-tying four-year losing streak. The win also put Michigan on top of the Legends Division as they go for their first berth in the Big Ten Championship Game (televised by FOX). "It's a great rivalry game...

Michigan-Nebraska Preview

Michigan had one of the nation's worst defenses just two years ago. Now - at least statistically - the unit is among the best in college football. The 20th-ranked Wolverines rank fourth against the pass in the country, 10th in total defense and 16th in points allowed. Since a 41-14 loss to Alabama and a 31-25 win over Air Force, Michigan (5-2, 3-0 Big Ten) has given up fewer...

Nebraska: first look

Read our preseason preview here. When Nebraska joined the Big Ten at the start of last season, the Cornhuskers were expected to compete for the Big Ten title right away. Instead, they went just 9-4 with three losses in the conference and a third place Legends division finish. Michigan handled the ‘Huskers easily in Ann Arbor, winning 45-17 and outgaining them 418 to 260. This season...
