No. 4 Oklahoma has plenty to shore up

Oklahoma's opener didn't quite go as planned. While the rest of the Big 12's title favorites rolled to easy victories, the fourth-ranked Sooners had to outlast a supposedly-overmatched opponent. Oklahoma beat Texas-El Paso 24-7 Saturday night at the Sun Bowl, but needed a strong effort from its defense and a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull it off. ...

Oklahoma vs. UTEP: Five things to watch

Monday, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops answered questions for nearly 30 minutes during his first weekly press conference of the season. None were about UTEP OU's opponent Saturday night in El Paso. So, with that in mind, let's not worry too much about the Miners. Here are five things to watch from the Sooner perspective: 1. What's the story with the defense? People seem...

Oklahoma 24, UTEP 7: The good, the bad, the ugly and the scary

All day Saturday watching college football, there were reminders of how badly college football needs exhibition football games that don't count. These first games are impossible to evaluate. Observers have no idea how good or bad UTEP is. Nelson Jeffery could go for 1,300 yards this year behind a decent UTEP OL. Or UTEP could go 2-10 and be awful. With that in mind, here'...

Oklahoma 24, UTEP 7: This looks familiar

The past nine months have been filled with turmoil and upheaval in Oklahoma's football program. Instead, Oklahoma came away with a thoroughly unimpressive 24-7 win over presumed cream...

No. 4 Sooners hit the road for opener at UTEP

Had quarterback Landry Jones decided to leave Oklahoma instead of returning for his senior season, he'd be starting over with a new group of offensive teammates in the NFL. As it is, he won't be bringing that many familiar faces with him when the fourth-ranked Sooners open their season Saturday night at UTEP. The receiving corps is almost entirely brand new, the offensive...

OU-UTEP: Halftime Thoughts

Raise your hand if you had the 7-7 square in your pool. *Some rust? Expected. A little out of synch? Understandable. This is different. Way different. The Sooners are playing with all the emotion of a bunch of guys getting a root canal and while watching a Jane Austen flick. It is damn near impossible to understand how a team could be out of action for that long and come out looking...
