In college football, what goes up one week often comes down the next. Just ask Michigan State. Seven days earlier, the Spartans felt the euphoria of a last-second Hail Mary victory, but on Saturday they looked like a totally different team while getting shut down in a 24-3 loss at Nebraska. It was Michigan State's fewest points in 95 games, since losing none other than the same Cornhuskers, 17-3, in the 2003 Alamo Bowl. Fifth-year senior quarterback Kirk Cousins completed just 11 of 27 passes for 86 yards with one interception. Senior B.J. Cunningham, the school's all-time leading receiver, was held without a reception for the first time in 42 games, since the third game of his freshman season. Cousins had been averaging nearly 230 yards passing a game this season while Cunningham was averaging more than 103 yards in receptions. In all, No. 11 Michigan State had 187 yards offensively, about 200 fewer than its season average. And this was all against a Nebraska defens...

Michigan State Suffers Big Letdown in Lincoln

As the Spartans came off of a hugely significant win over Wisconsin last week, the future looked bright for the green and white for the remainder of 2011. But that future is looking significantly dimmer after a miserable 24-3 defeat at the hands of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The game was painfully reminiscent of MSU’s road loss to Iowa on the same weekend one year ago. On that day...

Defending Against Kirk Cousins

Pressuring Spartan Quarterback a Key for NU So far this week, most of the reports and chatter about the Huskers' upcoming game with Michigan State has focused on how the NU offense matches up with the Spartan defense. That makes sense - strength against strength. But the outcome of the game may hinge more on the Husker defense, in particular their...

No. 9 Michigan St. loses 24-3 at No. 13 Nebraska

That fantastic finish against Wisconsin sure seems like a long time ago to Michigan State. The ninth-ranked Spartans had a chance to build an almost insurmountable lead in the Big Ten Legends Division on Saturday against No. 13 Nebraska, but the Spartans' road demons cropped up again in a 24-3 loss. ''What a difference a week makes,'' Michigan State coach Mark...

Michigan State suffers first Big Ten loss after getting hammered by Nebraska on road, 24-3

Spartans QB Kirk Cousins was just 11-of-27 for 86 yards with one interception.

BCS mess: One bad bounce will kill you

The football heaved from the right arm of Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins cuts through the crisp East Lansing air, Wisconsin's national championship hopes hanging ever so perilously in the balance. If Cousins' last-second throw is 2 inches lower on its trajectory, Wisconsin wide receiver and defensive back for a play Jared Abbrederis, waiting with his sure hands...
