Derek Thompson threw for 331 yards and two touchdowns and North Texas defeated Troy 38-33 on Saturday.
Down three points early in the fourth quarter, Thompson threw a 46-yard touchdown to Chris Bynes. The Mean Green then recovered a Corey Robinson fumble at the 6-yard line, and James Hamilton's 6-yard touchdown run put them up 38-27.
Hamilton, who took over after Lance Dunbar left the game with a knee injury, ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
Thompson also ran for a 15-yard touchdown.
Troy's Robinson threw for 267 yards and four touchdowns, but lost a fumble and threw an interception. The Trojans (2-7, 1-4 Sun Belt Conference) have now lost five straight, and after winning or sharing the Sun Belt title for five straight years won't go to a bowl.
North Texas (4-6, 3-3) kept postseason hopes alive in coach Dan McCarney's first year.
