It was another Friday night game, so no one should be surprised the Mid-American Conference championship game delivered another crazy performance. Trailing 20-0 at halftime and by 13 points with less than nine minutes to play, Northern Illinois scored 16 points to pull out the win in Detroit. Not until Matthew Sims hit a 33-yard field goal did NIU lead in this game, but that was enough for the championship. The Huskies (10-3) were the more talented team, but Ohio (9-4) had the momentum and should have delivered Frank Solich the championship in the Bobcats third try. Instead Ohio blew a golden opportunity. With a chance to milk three to five minutes off the clock and up 20-7, Solich gambled and lost. Instead of sticking with his solid running game, he let Tyler Tettleton throw the ball deep. But Tettleton's pass came up a bit short and the pass was intercepted by Northern Illinois' Jimmie Ward.   That started the NIU come back. Chandler Harnish, the MAC Offensive P...

Northern Illinois takes on Ohio in MAC title game

Chandler Harnish and Northern Illinois arrived at last year's Mid-American Conference title game with an undefeated league record and a spiffy national ranking. Then the Huskies were stunned when Miami of Ohio scored a last-minute touchdown to beat them. Harnish and his teammates worked all season for another chance. ''I feel like this is where my legacy is going to...

Northern Illinois' humble QB talks success, 'Harnishing' (with video)

Northern Illinois quarterback Chandler Harnish is a born leader on the field and a pretty modest guy for someone who led the Huskies to a 7-1 MAC West record, 9-3 overall.

NIU Huskies Win MAC Title; Furious Comeback in Championship Game

Your NIU Huskies are MAC champions for the first time since 1983, and they did it in dramatic style. NIU improved to 10-3 and finished an up and down season with a tremendous high- winning their first conference title game in the last three attempts. The very definition of the extremely tired cliche “tale of two halves,” Ohio won the first half 20-0, but NIU beat the Bobcats...

The Best Game That No One is Watching

The Ohio Bobcats took on the Northern Illinois Huskies where no one decided to show up to support their team in the championship game. Both opening drives ended up in interceptions which is odd because the MAC is not known for its defense. The director of communications of the MAC conference even found me on Twitter and urged me not to call it MACtion. Tyler Tettleton’s father...

Ohio falls to N. Illinois 23-20 in MAC title game

All Ohio needed was one big play on offense - anything that could help the Bobcats hold off Northern Illinois and win their first Mid-American Conference title in more than four decades. Matt Weller missed a field goal. Tyler Tettleton threw an interception. Finally, with the game tied, a miscue on a shotgun snap cost Ohio a dozen more yards. ''We had plenty of chances...

Football. Northern Illinois Rallies to Win MAC Over Ohio, 23-20

Mathew Sims kicked a 33-yard field goal on the final play to cap a furious comeback that gave Northern Illinois a 23-20 victory over Ohio in the Mid-American Conference title game Friday night. The Huskies (10-3) trailed 20-0 after an abysmal first half before rallying behind quarterback Chandler Harnish. It was a delightful turnabout for Northern Illinois, which lost in the 2010...
