Alright Beavers fans, UCLA are 3-0 right now. We should be worried about the Beavers chances on Saturday right? Well no, at least no more than you should usually be worried about a beavers game played in the month of September. Yes, UCLA has as of yet failed to lose a football game; and yes they’ve put up some nice scores in the first three games. There are some things that should give Beavers fans hope heading into the second game of the season. The Bruins of UCLA have yet to play a Pac-12 game this season; effectively they’ve just completed their preseason. Bruins coach Jim Mora Jr. can tell you all about undefeated preseasons not extending into the regular season. In 2009, as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, Mora led his team to a 4-0 record in the preseason only to finish the regular season 5-11. Mora lost his job following that season.  Obviously the preseason in the NFL is a different beast from the NCAA preseason. NFL coaches try to make sure not to show much of what they ...

College Fantasy Football: Week 4 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em RBs

Start 'EmMontee Ball – Wisconsin vs. UTEPBall has been a major disappointment to fantasy owners through the early part of 2012. Things are not good in Madison, but a visit from the Miners could be just what the doctor ordered. This could be one of those 150 and 3 performances. STAFF PICK – KEVIN MOUNT         Raymond Maples – Army vs. Wake ForestMaples has back to...

UCLA offering discounted tickets to fans in bathing suits for today’s game against Oregon State

UCLA is 3-0 and have looked much improved under new head coach Jim Mora Jr. But no matter how much early season success a school in Los Angeles is having, it will be an uphill battle to get folks to come out to games. Case in point: Preseason No. 1 ranked USC had to turn to Living Social to help sell out their home opener a few weeks ago. So long story short, you have to find creative...

NOTEBOOK: Checking in on UCLA

HOW AMPED UP are they in Los Angeles after UCLA’s 3-0 start and No. 19 ranking? An LA Times writer this week said Jim Mora, who has coached all of three games in college, looks to be cut from the same cloth as the best college/pro coach in the game today. Meanwhile, Las Vegas over the course of this week seems to be seeing things a little differently…

UCLA joining the playcard wave

The UCLA Bruins are currently on a 3 game winning streak heading into conference play. First up for the Bruins is Oregon State. The Bruins will be experimenting with the playcard phenomenon that has taken over after Oregon made it famous with their outrageous pictures. Coach Jim Mora feels it could help the Bruins offense speed up a little bit. “If it can help us with our...

UCLA to experiment with new play-calling method

It's all in the cards. UCLA will experiment with placards, featuring random illustrations, to signal in plays and formations. Oregon pioneered the technique. "If it can help us with our substitution, speed up our operation on offense, then we're going to do it," UCLA Coach Jim Mora said. Mora added that there have not been problems in that area, but "we...

Could Abbrederis be True Key to Badgers Success?

It's the classic trick - put an object in one hand and keep everyone looking at it while the other is doing something completely different. For Wisconsin, Ball is the object everyone has been paying attention to and that was allowing a wide receiver by the name of Jared Abbrederis to flourish, but last week despite a running game that got going at times with Ball something was...
