Temple Owls senior middle linebacker Stephen Johnson was named Mid-American Conference Eastern Division Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Owls' 42-14 win over the Army Black Knights. Johnson had a career-high 16 tackles, including eight solo tackles--also a career best.

The award is Johnson's third of his career, all coming this season. Johnson has a team-high 99 tackles, 34 more than any other Owl, in addition to two forced fumbles and five pass breakups. This is the fourth double-digit tackle game this season (and career) for Johnson, who also had 16 at Ball State while getting 11 each against Bowling Green and Maryland.

The Temple defense held Army's number-one ranked rushing attack to just 96 yards in the first half of Saturday's game as the home team jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first 30 minutes. Safety Kevin Kroboth, another senior, added 12 tackles, including a game-high 11 solo.

While the Black Knights did finish the game with 340 yards rushing, Owls head coach Steve Addazio said that the Owls had moved both safeties back, allowing Army to gain yards slowly, wasting the clock and ensuring a Temple victory. The method worked, as Army needed over eight minutes to score their first touchdown and left too little time on the clock to come back on Temple.

Temple (7-4, 4-3 MAC) plays Kent State (5-6, 4-3) in their final game of the regular season at noon on Friday, November 25 at Lincoln Financial Field. The seniors will be honored on-field prior to the game.
