A massive groundswell of support for Robbie Buckner came in the final hours of this poll, which led to the Brigham Young Cougars cornerback finishing with 59 percent of the vote. Quarterback Riley Nelson was second with 30 percent. Three year starter Brandon Ogletree was a distant third with five percent followed by David Foote and “other” with three percent each. My vote also goes to Buckner. This was a two horse race. Ogletree tied for the team lead in tackles (6), but he does that every game and, by his standards, six is a little low. Foote saw more action than normal, but 10 carries for 38 yards wasn’t enough to move the needle his direction. Nelson started off hot, but finished 19 of 31 for 236 yards, with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. He added seven rushes for 49 yards. His pass efficiency was 157.2, which was a season high, but the way he finished completing just five of his last 13 passes left a sour taste in my mouth.
