Pop Warner has named a scholarship after the father of Alabama coach Nick Saban.
The youth sports organization announced the creation of the Nick Saban Sr. Scholarship Fund on Tuesday. It's the organization's first named scholarship.
Nick Saban Sr. started a Pop Warner team in Fairmont, West Virginia, and his son played for him.
The scholarships will be awarded based on academic achievement and leadership on and off the field.
Saban says the scholarship fund is ''an immense honor.'' The coach says it's ''a truly meaningful way to honor my father's commitment to the Pop Warner program and the great game of football, and the strong emphasis he placed on academic excellence.''
Pop Warner Little Scholars bills itself as the world's largest youth football, cheerleading and dance organization.

Alabama Coach Nick Saban dropped the name as easily as most would have mentioned his auto mechanic. “I was just talking to Zach Johnson out there...,” Saban said, pointing in the general direction to his office from the media center in the Mal Moore Athletics Building during Saban’s Monday press briefing.
Well, we now know that Youngstown State head coach Eric Wolford has a sense of humor. We’re still not sure about Alabama coach Nick Saban, however.
At his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Wolford took a shot at the Tide head coach after a reporter’s phone rang during the session. Saban has had a few less-than-comfortable moments with the media.
It was just a few weeks ago...
Dylan Moses chose the familiarity of Baton Rouge, and a three minute walk to college over the allure of Nick Saban and years of hatred in his home state.
Moses, who drew national praise for being recruited by LSU and Alabama, has chosen to commit to the Tigers at the beginning of his freshman year.
Moses is currently attending University Lab High School this fall, which is about...
The fear, perhaps exaggerated or hyperbolic, is that Nick Saban, the king of college coaches, could leave Alabama for Texas. The hullaballoo of the Saban rumors is more interesting, than Alabama’s pursuit of a third straight national title, even though he has denied the Texas reports. The scuttlebutt on him is not inevitable, but for a chance to stockpile talent in Alabama —...

Alabama is a great team. They have rightfully earned the accolades and awards heaped upon them with multiple national championships. Nick Saban is a great coach, one of the best ever. However, and again, with the utmost respect, this year’s Alabama team, at least on defense, does not resemble the championship teams of the...

Dylan Moses only recently began his high school career at University Lab High in Baton Rouge, La., yet the ninth-grader has already (for now) decided to play college football down the road at LSU.
"Just committed to LSU #GeaxTigers!!" Moses tweeted Sunday night (He meant to tweet "Geaux Tigers," but there's time to work on that).

Alabama's offensive woes have been partially masked by its ability to score in other ways, but coach Nick Saban knows improvement on that side of the ball is paramount to his top-ranked team's success moving forward.
That doesn't mean Mississippi coach Hugh Freeze believes his No. 21 Rebels will have it any easier as they try to end a nine-game losing streak to the Crimson...
DAVIE, Fla. -- Nick Saban didn't have too good of a tenure with the Miami Dolphins. Apparently, it also wasn't a memorable time for the team doctors.
Saban, who coached the Dolphins to a 15-17 mark in 2005 and 2006, had revealed in a South Florida radio interview last December he didn't choose Daunte Culpepper over Drew Brees as a free-agent quarterback in 2006, but...
Alabama has been so dominant over the last five seasons that when the Crimson Tide show any kind of weakness, a mass of euphoria sweeps the nation.
“Alabama just gave up a 30 yard pass. Their secondary looks weak! Maybe even we could throw on them and get a few cheap touchdowns!”
“Wow, look at that mediocre team sacking A. J. McCarron. Our guys can do that!”
Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant was all over ESPN Tuesday and he answered all sorts of questions, including who should be the starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins and who the greatest NBA player of all time is.
Durant was on SportsCenter Tuesday morning and then on Sports Nation on ESPN2 in the afternoon where he talked about all sorts of things.
"I love Mack...
Michigan State has granted Alabama's request to drop two future meetings from the schedule.
The Crimson Tide asked to cancel the football games scheduled for 2016 and 2017.
Alabama athletic director Bill Battle said Thursday the school made the request because of "the uncertainty of the conference football schedule in those years."
The Southeastern Conference hasn...
BamaMag.com hosted its latest Alabama recruiting chat on Tuesday night and plenty of information was exchanged between staff and subscribers, including a nugget of information that may be a crucial part of how the class of 2014 ends up for Nick Saban and company. If you missed any of it, catch up with our transcript inside.
The powerful defenses in the Southeastern Conference are being knocked on their heels.
The SEC has built its reputation on fast, talented defenses and rode that tradition to seven straight BCS national titles. This year, defenses are being shredded yard-by-yard.
Nine of 14 SEC teams are surrendering more yards than a year ago at this time. Among them are some of the conference...
