Portal Frenzy: Alabama, Washington, and More Portal News
© Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

By Tony Thomas

The 2nd leading rusher with the Crimson Tide, a former Washington/Mississippi State QB, two Washington defensive backs who combined for six INTs, and a Red Raider linebacker are looking to see first-hand if the grass is truly greener on the other side.

RB Roydell Williams

Alabama Crimson Tide

5’10”, 214 lbs.

The 2nd leading rusher on the Alabama team in 2023, Roydell Williams rushed for 560 yards and five touchdowns. In addition, Williams had one receiving touchdown. Against South Florida, Williams rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown.

Possible landing spots for the Hueytown, Alabama native include Auburn, Florida State, and Mississippi State, to name a few.

QB Will Rogers

Washington Huskies

6’2”, 205 lbs.

As the #2 passer all-time in SEC history, Will Rogers entered the transfer portal after four seasons at Mississippi State and transferred to Washington. However, after Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer was hired to replace Nick Saban at Alabama, Rogers has re-entered the portal once again.

In 2023, Rogers passed for 1,626 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four INTs for the Bulldogs. In 2022, Rogers led the SEC in pass attempts, pass completions, and passing touchdowns. For his career, Rogers has 12,315 passing yards, 94 touchdowns, and 28 INTs.

One team that is probably contacting Rogers now as I write this is Miami, who are in desperate need for a quarterback of Rogers’ caliber. Another consideration could be that Rogers transfers back to Mississippi State to play in Jeff Lebby’s offense. Other teams that make sense include Louisville, Auburn, SMU, and the Houston Cougars.

CB Jabbar Muhammad

Washington Huskies

5’10”, 183 lbs.

A 2nd Team All-PAC-12 selection, Jabbar Muhammad piled up 48 tackles, picked off three passes, five tackles for loss, two sacks, and broke up 16 passes. Against Oregon State, Muhammad picked off two passes, broke up four passes, and made one tackle.

Teams that could use a talented and productive cornerback include LSU, Texas A&M, Houston, and Texas. Of course, Muhammad could follow Kalen DeBoer to Alabama.

CB Mishael Powell

Washington Huskies

6’1”, 204 lbs.

In 2023, Mishael Powell racked up 38 tackles, three INTs, 2.5 tackles for loss, and six pass breakups. For his career, Powell has 93 career tackles to his credit. A big cover corner, Powell matches up well with taller receivers.

Schools that make sense for Powell include Oregon, USC, and UCLA, as well as following his former head coach to Tuscaloosa.

LB Steve Linton

Texas Tech Red Raiders

6’5”, 235 lbs.

Going into his 6th year of college ball, Steve Linton made 22 tackles, recorded three sacks, and made 4.5 tackles for loss for the Red Raiders in 2023. For his career, Linton has 67 tackles, seven sacks, and 12.5 tackles for loss.

Possible landing spots for Linton include UCF, Arizona State, Baylor, and Missouri, who all offered Linton out of high school. In addition, Georgia also makes sense, as Linton is a Georgia native and was one of the best in the state in the Class of 2019.
