Name: Brandon Sparrow

VS. UAB, East Carolina, and West Virginia
Sparrow is a great run defender with huge motor. He controls the line of scrimmage very well with great pad level and strength. Sparrow is a relentless pass rusher who uses his great bull rush and quick get off for great penetration. He had to be triple covered at times. Most the triples vs. West Virginia were the result of zone blocking. He does a decent job defeating cut blocks, which keeps him in passing lanes and screen plays.
Sparrow accumulated 5.0 sacks, 3 QB hurries, 9.0 TFL’s and a blocked kick vs. UAB in 2012. Sparrow had his best game against the hapless Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles with 4 solo tackles, 3.0 TFL’s, with two of them going for sacks.
A 5-7 record and 101st ranked defense for the Thundering Herd in 2012 may not garner any close looks from the major media, but definitely keep a close eye on Sparrow. He is a prototypical 3-4 DE, but could also make a living as a 3-tech in the NFL. Going into the 2013 college football season, Sparrow is high on my list of interior lineman for his high intensity play, strength, and football IQ. What is most impressive to me is that you find his sub 300 pound frame in almost every play. At this point, I prefer Sparrow to Timmy Jernigan, who is very raw technically, and possess comparable athleticism. I project Sparrow as an early day 3, 3-4 defensive end in 2014.
