PLAYERS: Sharrif Floyd
TEAMS: Florida Gators
Sharrif Floyd didn’t work out at Florida’s Pro Day on Tuesday, but he didn’t need to after his performance at the NFL Draft combine last month. Ever since then, the former Florida defensive tackle has seen his stock soar, even gaining mention as a potential top-three overall pick in next month’s NFL Draft. That may come as a surprise to some, but no one inside the Florida program is shocked.

Gators will work on passing game in spring

GAINESVILLE, Fla. Now that Gators offensive coordinator Brent Pease has had time to review and reflect upon his first season, he realizes there were times last season when young quarterbacks Jeff Driskel and Jacoby Brissett may not have grasped as much as they let on. They were in a tight battle to become the starter in an offense that featured different terminology and plays from...

Spring Football: Florida Gators to discover real identity in third year with Muschamp

First Practice: March 13 Spring Game: April 6 After a nice bounce-back season in which Florida went 11-2 and was a possible BCS Championship contender, the Gators have been gutted of experienced talent. This doesn’t mean Will Muschamp’s squad can’t overcome this, but it’s something that must be dealt with if Florida wants to be in contention for the SEC crown in...

Donovan, Gators still have plenty to prove

When Billy Donovan was darting around college basketball courts in a Providence uniform during the mid-'80s, his Friars never earned better than a 6-seed in the NCAA tournament. They never won a Big East title, regular season or tournament. There was never a target on his team's back, nor the subsequent pressure that came with it. This, of course, came before Donovan'...

2013 Prospectus: Florida Gators

After going 7-6 in his first season, Will Muschamp certainly raised some questions. In year two, Muschamp improved to an impressive 11-2. Year three will be the most telling as Muschamp has now been through three recruiting cycles and a lot of the inherited talent has moved on. As impressive as the 11-2 season was, it ended on a down note with a 33-23 loss at the hands of former...

Muschamp speaks on position changes

Spring practice is about growth and improvement, but it also allows the Florida coaching staff to try some players at different positions. This year will be no different, as head coach Will Muschamp announced those changes on Tuesday afternoon. The Gators will try to improve weaker spots on the roster by moving players from some of the stronger positions.

Building through the middle

Will Muschamp admits it on a routine basis -- he’s young but old fashioned. Part of that is why he knows the Gators have an important part of the defense to rebuild this spring. It’s the entire middle. The Gators lost both of the starting defensive tackles, inside linebackers and safeties following last season. There’s talent on the roster, but the Gators need to develop depth this spring.
