With two spring practices in the books, it was a refreshing sight to see the West Virginia Mountaineers back in action at Milan Puskar Stadium this week. While the practices required little contact, head coach Dana Holgorsen and staff are starting to bring the intensity back to a new-look WVU team following the losses of some key veterans. Flickr/duffman34 The Mountaineers opened up practice Sunday afternoon on a gorgeous, 70-degree day, while West Virginia had its second practice on a cold, damp Tuesday afternoon before the chaos of Pro Day hits Morgantown on Thursday. There are so many things to be determined in the spring and summer before fall camp begins. For one, Holgorsen will need to work out the quarterback situation between last year’s backup junior Paul Millard, redshirt freshman Ford Childress, Fairmont State transfer Logan Moore, and an early enrollee in Chavas Rawlins. While most believe it’s a two man race between Childress and Millard, you never know what can happen in spring ball and summer camp — Holgorsen announced earlier this week that he has no plans to reveal a quarterback depth chart until the fall. Millard has the experience, but Childress has looked extra sharp in the early drills this spring. The four-star QB out of Texas has the look and feel of a Big 12-type of guy. Being 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds doesn’t hurt his chances, either. There are other questions and concerns for Holgorsen in other positions — who will the center be come September? How will an almost completely new offensive line look? How will the receivers do following some big losses? All valid questions. A notable stand-out thus far has been JUCO receiver Kevin White. His massive frame and physical attributes could allow White to excel in Holgorsen’s style of offense. Here are some sights and sounds from the first two days of practice: And you can check out Coach Holgorsen’s thoughts on spring ball up to this point:
