Pompano Beach, Florida cornerback Rashard Robinson committed to LSU on Tuesday evening.  Robinson has been leaning to LSU for quite some time, but it was believed that LSU's coaching staff wanted to get a closer look at him at their July camp prior to formalizing an offer.  Robinson came and competed for three days, turned in a blazing 40 time, and performed well overall.  LSU reaffirmed their offer to Robinson before he left campus.   Robinson wanted to return to campus with his family, and he apparently did that on Tuesday.  His family apparently liked what they saw because Robinson is now LSU's 22nd commitment in the Class of 2013.

Robinson is a legit 6'2" with great length and blazing speed.  However, he's very thin right now at just 165 pounds.  So he'll need to add some bulk and strength before being ready for the SEC, but he has time to work on that.  As a tall corner, he'll immediately remind many of Tharold Simon, and that's a pretty good comparison for his game.  With such long legs, it's tough for Robinson to keep up with shorter, shiftier receivers in the middle of the field.  But like Simon, he should be tremendous on the outside.  He can use his long arms to jam receivers, and then he can turn and run with any of them.  If they do get by him with their initial quickness, he has the top end speed to recover and the arm length to make plays on the ball.  Despite his very lean frame, Robinson also shows off some big-time physicality and toughness.

Robinson will join Tre'Davious White and Rickey Jefferson as cornerbacks in this class.  Jeryl Brazil may also play cornerback.   All three of the aforementioned guys could also end up on the offensive side of the ball, so LSU's staff has some versatility in where they play these guys.  However, Robinson is a cornerback all the way.   Jeremy Cutrer joins the mix as the class's only safety...for now.

Robinson probably closes the book on defensive backs for the Class of 2013; however, LSU will continue to recruit blue chipper Priest Willis.  USC was thought to be the favorite for Willis, but with the addition of defensive end Torrodney Prevot over the weekend, they are out of room in their class.  So Willis won't be signing with them.  UCLA has come on strong lately, but Willis plans to visit LSU sometime this fall.  With a good visit, who knows what could happen?   Willis could play either corner or safety at the next level.

In addition to Willis, the top targets for this class remain defensive end Tim Williams, linebacker Kendell Beckwith, and defensive tackle Greg Gilmore.

In case you missed it, LSU added athlete Devin Voorhies to the Class of 2014 over the weekend.  Voorhies hails from Woodville, MS which is only about 60 miles from LSU's campus.  He participated in LSU's camp in June and earned an offer immediately after.  So while Voorhies is technically an out of state prospect, he's under a pretty heavy LSU influence.  Landing Voorhies is a big deal.  It's early, but 247 Sports ranks him as the #2 player in the state of Mississippi and the #68 overall player in the Class of 2014.   Voorhies is 6'2" 185 and could project at either safety or wide receiver at the next level.   I think he'll end up at receiver, especially with all of the great defensive backs in the Class of 2014 that have a high interest in LSU.   The Tigers now have three commitments for the Class of 2014, which is shaping up to be a stellar group.

Combined with in-state prospects Trey Quinn, Devante Noil, and Malachi Dupre, LSU could have an incredible haul at receiver next year.  Noil and Dupre, along with Voorhies, are in the early version of the Top 100 on 247 Sports.  Quinn can't be too far away.  And that's not even counting Ouachita's Cameron Sims, #90 on 247's early list.   Sims does not yet have an offer from LSU yet but depending on what some others do, he could earn one before it's over.

Here are some highlights from Voorhies' sophomore season.  He lines up at quarterback a good bit, but it doesn't take you long to notice that he's an exceptional athlete with some serious stop-start ability.
