Virginia Tech kicker Cody Journell has been charged with breaking and entering following an alleged home invasion in Blacksburg, Va., The Roanoke Times reported Thursday. Journell, a redshirt sophomore, was arrested along with two other men Wednesday night. According to WDBJ-TV, arrest warrants indicated the trio went to the home "over an issue of being cheated in a drug transaction." Journell was arrested and charged with a Class 2 felony of breaking and entering because of the alleged use of a dangerous weapon, police told The Times. The 20-year-old kicker has been suspended indefinitely from the football team, Virginia Tech athletics director Jim Weaver said in an emailed statement. Matthew D. Dunton, 23, and Matthew I. Brady, 21, both of Blacksburg, were also arrested and charged. All three were being held without bond. "There is genuinely an ongoing investigation. There are people out right now working on it," said Lt. Steve Taylor of the Blacksburg Police Department. "We have not ruled out additional charges on additional individuals." Journell was an honorable mention All-ACC kicker this season after converting 14 of 17 field goals. The Virginia native also converted 43 of 44 extra points for the Hokies this year. Virginia Tech, 9-3, is slated to take on Michigan in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 3.
