Lane Kiffin has been on the proverbial hot seat at USC for some time. It took just five games in 2013 for the Trojans to finally put him to the sword. USC fired Kiffin as their head coach on Sunday morning, according to Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times. The move came down just hours after a 62-41 loss to Arizona State, which dropped the Trojans to just 3-2 on the season. Kiffin took over as head coach in 2010 after a failed stint with the Oakland Raiders and one year at Tennessee. The 38-year-old coach went 28-18 in three-plus seasons with the Trojans, finishing ranked No. 6 in the nation in 2011. USC was ineligible for postseason play in each of Kiffin’s first two seasons, forcing the Trojans to miss bowl games in 2010 and 2011. They lost to Georgia Tech 21-7 in the Hyundai Sun Bowl to cap off their 2012 campaign, Kiffin’s only bowl berth while at SC. There will likely be a clamoring for the job throughout college football and the NFL with names like Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, Boise State’s Chris Petersen or even St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher.
