Rutgers running back Paul James will miss at least the next two games due to a lower-leg injury. It is a shame because the walkon at one point was leading the nation in rushing while going into last week’s game against Arkansas. He finished the game with 80 yards after leaving again the fourth quarter for good, and is currently second in the nation in rushing. Melvin Gordon of Wisconsin is first with 624 rushing yards.
James will miss playing against SMU and Lousiville. The Scarlet Knights are currently on a bye week for this upcoming weekend.
Former four-star recruit Savon Huggins will shoulder the load now. He was expected to be the team’s starting running back going into the season, but James outperformed him in the season opener at Fresno State. Huggins had a huge game during last season at Cincinnati when former-Rutgers running back Jawan Jamison missed most of the game due to injury. Huggins rumbled for 179 yards on 41 carries.
