If youre a college coach on the recruiting trail, Serra High School has become a one-stop shop for future NCAA impact players. The spring evaluation period is under way and USC, Cal, and Nebraska were among schools that have visited the campus in Gardena this week, with more visitors scheduled. Serra, as a surprise to some, won the Western Division championship last season and finished the year off by winning their second state title in four years. The Cavaliers, under coach Scott Altenberg, are loaded entering next season and are the early favorites to reach the Open Division Bowl at seasons end. Cornerback Adoree' Jackson is a top-five player nationally in the class of 2014 and has drawn comparisons to Serra alum and current USC wide receiver, Marqise Lee. Like Lee, Jackson is a freak of an athlete who also competes in basketball and track. Linebacker Dwight Williams is one of the nations best as well. Between Jackson and Williams, they have over 50 scholarship offers. Last week, quarterback Jalen Greene committed to Boise State. This week, it was rising junior Rasheem Green drawing the attention. The USC coaching staff was highly impressed with the 6-foot-5, 270-pound defensive lineman. (He) started running and theyre like you got to be kidding me,' Altenberg said. Rasheem was running with the sprinters around the curve on the 200. It was like, he was getting faster. It was crazy. SC offered him a scholarship on the spot. Green also picked up offers from Florida, Cal, and Washington. Seven members of the Serra football team currently hold scholarship offers with others expected to receive offers in the months leading up to next season. Its not unfamiliar territory for Altenberg. After winning the 2009 state championship, he returned a star-studded cast featuring Lee and George Farmer. They made it all the way to the state title game before being upset by Folsom. Altenberg sees similarities with this group. Were both coming off of (state bowl) wins with a lot of talent and that team played great the whole year, Altenberg said. (There were) huge expectations and they delivered (until) that last game.
