Earlier today the wonderful folks behind the ever popular BCS system announced the name of the new playoff system. That name? Get ready for it..... the awesomely YAWN inducing "College Football Playoff." Yep, that was a wonderful stroke of genius.

I'm all for the "keep it simple stupid" philosophy in life, but this... well it's just lazy. Whatever, fine, it is what it is (god do I hate having to use that cliché) and in reality it's better than anything associated with the terms "Bowl," "Championship," and "Series" in the same sentence.

However lazy the name may have been it's only been topped by these "logos" the fans can vote on (see below):

I don't know about you, but these are just AWFUL. As in "some 14 year old with photoshop and no imagination could've made these" AWFUL. Not a single one of these are even appealing on their face and if you chose to vote as a fan, good luck picking from this bumper crop of logos.

At least they decided to keep it simple with the name and the logo, but as fans of a conference that will be putting teams into this playoff system (or so we can hope with recent results) it just feels like these guys have insulted our intelligence as fans, writers, bloggers and just general human beings.

We, the general consuming and writing public, deserve better than the garbage that came out today. But, I guess that's what we should've expected from the geniuses that brought us the BCS to begin with. Let's just hope it's not a sign of how awful the system they come up with to pick the four teams will be, right?

  • Collegefootballplayoff.com is a name for a web site? What a joke! It's playoffs. America says Playoffs....always have and always will... as I start the long and tedious process of typing in collegefootballplayoff.com - I can only wonder if they are intentionally trying to give us all carpal tunnel. These ripoff artists know who the real deal is... Paying out of pocket and broadcasting anti BCS ads supporting cfbplayoffs since '08. Check out the original commercial that first aired nearly five years ago.
