Recruiting is a crazy process by nature — teenagers across the country get their egos fed by grown men recruiters, and the recruiters pretty much do anything it takes to convince the players to join their team. However, sometimes things aren’t always rosy — sometimes schools pull offers from kids, or hit their scholarship limit and can’t accept players that they’ve already offered. Other times, coaches say or do something that offends a recruit, and that recruit immediately stops considering that school. On Sunday, four-star defensive tackle Matt Elam, one of the best prospects in the state of Kentucky, went to Twitter to essentially eliminate the Florida Gators from contention for his football services: Swear Im Done With Joker Phillips Haha Not To Be Rude Or Anything But I Cant Do It — Matt Elam™ (@FballIsLife69) June 9, 2013 Great Dude But I Just Feel Disrespected And I Still Like The School But Just Not Real High On Joker — Matt Elam™ (@FballIsLife69) June 9, 2013 Joker Phillips was the former coach of the University of Kentucky Wildcats, but has since moved on to becoming the recruiting coordinator for the University of Florida. Nobody but Elam knows what Phillips did to offend him, but Florida can’t like its chances to land Elam at this point. Additionally, the Gators have to hope that other big recruits aren’t taking notice of Elam’s comments and reconsidering their own feelings towards Florida. [Bleacher Report]
