This week’s college football odds have South Carolina listed as a 14-point home favorite for their tilt against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday. The Gamecocks (7-2, 5-2) have been off since escaping against lowly Tennessee, 38-35, on Oct. 27. That game was marred by the loss of running back Marcus Lattimore—South Carolina’s best player and emotional leader—to a devastating knee-injury at the end of the first half. The Gamecocks never seemed to fully get over that development against the Vols as they nearly gave up a two-touchdown lead in the fourth quarter. Arkansas (4-5, 2-3)  entered the season as a top-10 team with high expectations, but a 1-4 start to the season torpedoed any chance the Razorbacks had of an SEC title run. They have managed to bounce-back by winning three of their last four games, which leaves them still in the running for a post-season bowl berth. Arkansas is just 2-6 against the spread this season, but it’s worth noting they have had recent success against the Gamecocks. In fact, the Razorbacks have beaten South Carolina each of the past three seasons, a point head coach John L. Smith has been promoting heavily to his team this week. South Carolina will look to fifth-year senior Kenny Miles and freshman Brandon Wilds to pick up the slack left by the Lattimore injury. Miles is a veteran of SEC battles who in fact was the Gamecocks starting running back before Lattimore arrived on campus. Arkansas is led by the nation’s 22nd-ranked passing attack that’s averaging 305.4 yards a game. Quarterback Tyler Wilson has thrown 16 touchdown passes and lead’s the SEC in yards per game through the air. His No. 1 target is senior wide receiver Cobi Hamilton, who set a new Arkansas record when collecting his 69th catch of the year against Tulsa last week. South Carolina has had a rough three weeks with losses to Florida and LSU followed by the injury to Lattimore. Arkansas, on the other hand, appears to have righted the ship somewhat following their disastrous start. The Razorbacks should be able to keep this one within the 14-point line.
