These Stanford guys – they’re smarter than the rest of us, that’s for sure. Cardinal defensive end Ben Gardner took to Twitter Sunday night to vent about the latest Johnny Manziel drama. If you’re late to the party, Manziel is currently being investigated by the NCAA for potentially profiting off of autographs he signed back in January. Gardner had a lot to say about Manziel’s rights, the NCAA’s flawed rules, and American capitalism. People are willing to pay money for Johnny footballs autograph. Doesn’t American capitalism suggest that he should be able to take advntg? — Ben Gardner (@BennyG49) August 4, 2013 College athlete or not, who knows whether he will have the same type of pro career that will offer those opportunities — Ben Gardner (@BennyG49) August 4, 2013 Excuse Johnny manziel for striking while the irons hot — Ben Gardner (@BennyG49) August 4, 2013 @hanniganlaw i agree. But I’m saying the rules are flawed and the NCAA is taking advantage of players with earning potential — Ben Gardner (@BennyG49) August 4, 2013 Gardner is saying the same thing that most college football fans have been saying for quite some time now; these athletes should be allowed to profit from their notoriety. Expect more athletes to join in the discussion here – this is just the beginning. [Rule of Tree]
