Tweet Earlier this week before the #5 Stanford Cardinals hyped matchup with the #3 Oregon Ducks, Ducks running back and Heisman candidate De’Anthony Thomas predicted that Oregon would score “at least 40” on the Cardinals defense. After Stanford held Oregon to 20 points, limited Thomas to just 30 yards rushing and secured a 26-20 Thursday night, a few Cardinals players took to Twitter to rip Thomas’s prediction: It's too bad words don't score points. 40?? Nope #TALKDAT — David Parry (@DavidParry58) November 8, 2013 Ummm I'm havin trouble counting? How many points was that? U know what we'll give ya half — Shayne Skov (@ShayneSkov11) November 8, 2013 Last year 14 pts. This year 14 pts. Combined? 28. Still waiting on those 40 pts from the Oregon offense. So proud of my dudes tonight — Ben Gardner (@BennyG49) November 8, 2013 The loss was Oregon’s first of the season and will almost certainly drop them a bit in the BCS standings. Thomas got a quick lesson on providing your opponent with bulletin-board material for motivation. Talk is cheap, and when you do talk big you have to be fully prepared to back it up. -ALR

Stanford Linebacker Shayne Skov Mocks De’Anthony Thomas On Twitter

Memo to De’Anthony Thomas – it’s always best to do your trash talking after the game. Thomas, a star running back for Oregon, made some noise earlier this week when he told reporters that the Ducks “should at least put up 40″ on Stanford. Well, given that his team only put up 20 last night (and didn’t score in the first three quarters), Cardinal linebacker Skayne Skov...

Stanford players wear taped glasses to embrace nerd identity

Stanford players are just nerds, there’s no way around it. But they are also pretty good at football too, and last night they knocked off the Oregon Ducks yet again, hanging on for a 26-20 win. After the win, the players weren’t done entertaining though — they decided to wear taped nerd glasses in their postgame interviews with the media, just to embrace the Stanford stereotype...

Several Stanford Cardinal football players attended Thursday night's postgame press conference wearing nerd glasses after their 26-20 win over the previously undefeated Oregon Ducks. Gridiron geeks: Stanford players dress as nerds for post-game press conference

As one of the preeminent academic institutions in the country, Stanford sometimes gets saddled with the reputation of being a place full of nerds -- a reputation these two guys studying in the bleachers during Thursday night's game certainly contributed to. But as the Cardinal proved yet again during that game -- a 26-20, season-killing win over Pac-12 rival Oregon -- the university...

Stanford fan savages Oregon with brilliant 'GameDay' sign

No. 2 Oregon and No. 5 Stanford may not kick off for a few more hours here, but fans are getting some trash talk in early. One Cardinal supporter came up with a pretty clever little GameDay sign ahead of tonight’s matchup. It’s a safe bet that it doesn’t get through security, however. I’m weak at this @CollegeGameDay sign via @georgewhitfield #FightOn

Stanford players dressed as nerds after beating Oregon (PHOTO)

Chalk one up for the Jonathan Martins of the sports world. Stanford already won the game with its physically dominating performance on both sides of the ball in the 26-20 win against the favored Oregon team. But some Stanford players gave fans a memorable reminder of what the school really represents in their postgame media presser. When asked why the players were wearing...

Stanford Rant: Hunting Geese

Let me just start by saying, YEEEEEAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! #FearTheTree. What a game by our Stanford Cardinal! The defense was lights out only giving up 13 offensive points to an Oregon team that averaged north of 50 and is second in the nation in scoring. The offensive line punched those geese in the mouth all game! I loved it! As Stanford fans, we all owe Tyler Gaffney at least a thank...

Stanford players trolled Oregon with nerdy looks

So Stanford beat Oregon Thursday night. Raise your hand if you weren’t surprised? *Raises hand! The best thing to come out of the win for the Cardinal was not only a shot at a BCS game but a little bit of trolling after De’Anthony Thomas suggested that the Ducks would lay 40. The game that ended up being sort of close, really wasn’t. Stanford dominated. Another one bites the...

Stanford clips Ducks' wings again

Tyler Gaffney ran for 157 yards and No. 5 Stanford hammered No. 3 Oregon for three quarters, then held off a furious final kick by the Ducks to crush their national title hopes for a second straight season, this time with a 26-20 victory Thursday night.

#3 Oregon heads to Palo Alto to take on #5 Stanford in crucial Pac-12 showdown

Fresh off a dismantling of Pac-12 sleeper UCLA, the Oregon Ducks head to Palo Alto tonight to take on the #5 ranked Stanford Cardinal for supremacy in the Pac-12 north. The winner of this game will take control of the division, and likely secure an appearance in the Pac-12 Championship Game. Despite a 7% decline in average ticket price over the past week, this game still checks in...
