Stanford vs. Washington got pretty heated on the field. Things haven’t really cooled down since they’ve been off it, either. Sunday morning, Washington coach Steve Sarkisian, whose team came painfully close to knocking off the undefeated Cardinal, told KJR radio that he believes Stanford’s coaching staff told a few of Stanford’s players to fake injuries on the field. From the San Jose Mercury News: “Their defensive line coach was telling them to sit down. I guess that’s how we play here at Stanford, so we’ll have to prepare for that next time. At some point, we’ll get repaid for it. That never serves a purpose for us, and we’ll never do that.” Stanford’s defensive line coach is Randy Hart, who spent 21 years as the defensive line coach at – you guessed it – Washington. One of the players in question, senior linebacker Shayne Skov, didn’t take kindly to the accusations. He set the record straight on Twitter: Lmao people saying I was faking an injury, u think I’m gunna miss a play In crunch time to slow down the offense? Ur a fool if you do… — Shayne Skov (@ShayneSkov11) October 6, 2013 We got the dub, UW is a hell of a team period. If I’m having docs look at me on the sideline I’m not faking it. Grow up, n watch the replay — Shayne Skov (@ShayneSkov11) October 6, 2013 It’s great to see a budding rivalry between the two schools, but the reasoning could be a little better. Next on the schedule for Washington? No. 2 Oregon – the only school I can recall that has had a positive “player fakes injury” story.
