The draft stock destroyers usually don’t begin to surface until early February, or the start of combine time during a normal 0ff-season. Hours before Clemson took the field against Florida State, rumors of a huge gambling debt belonging to Clemson star quarterback Tajh Boyd began to surface in social media circuits. Orange and White is reporting that the original report came from IBNSportswrap, which then reportedly cited an unnamed and un-quoted “sources” that stated that Boyd owes $80,000 to two bookies, who extended him credit against his anticipated NFL payday.claiming that Boyd had amassed over $80,000 in gambling debts by betting on NFL games. Boyd said he learned of that story on Sunday after Clemson’s blowout loss to Florida State. “I don’t know where that came from,” Boyd said. “Honestly, I don’t really watch NFL games. I only get two games. It was kind of shocking.” You don’t watch NFL games?  We’ll come back to that in a second. Incarcerated Bob is not the most reputable source in the business, and not regarded in the highest standing because of his shady dealings in the sports gambling word. Dabo Swinney addressed the matter as well. “I spoke to Tajh about it,” said Swinney at his weekly press conference on Tuesday. “I don’t think there’s any truth to that. I have no reason not to believe Tajh. That’s really the only comment there is.” Swinney then of course went on the attack, and questioned the credibility of the site that ran the original report. That’s the world we live in – anybody can pretty much say anything that they want,” Swinney said. “I don’t have any evidence that there’s anything factual in the website article. “I just go right to the source. He shook his head (no). I have no reason to believe that he would lie to me…I have no reason not to trust him. His character and integrity are impeccable, as opposed to some website that’s probably had some inaccurate reports.” Boyd was then asked to address the matter one last time. “I don’t know where that came from. I rarely watch NFL games. To gamble with that – I don’t have cable, so I only get two games on Sunday. It was kind of shocking. I have no idea where that came from.” “That, on top of the loss, made for a rough weekend,” Boyd said. Boyd doesn’t watch NFL games?  Come on now. These are serious allegations and if found to be true could shatter an already shake landscape for the NCAA, and send Boyd’s draft stock spiraling. If they are false, then Boyd might want to speak to a sports psychologist, because nasty rumors shouldn’t cause you to put on of the worst big game performances seen in some time.
