The Duck Stops Here:
Derrick Malone led the Oregon with 11 tackles Saturday, and that's a good number for Don Pellum and the Oregon defense.
Trying to build depth, cohesion and recognition in the linebacker corps, Malone's solid day shows one of Pellum's key pupils is getting it and responding when the scoreboard switches on. Tony Washington added 7 from the drop end/outside linebacker position, and true freshman Torrodney Prevot, playing in his first college game, had 5 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. That's a good day's work for a new player. Prevot's speed and athletic ability at 6-3, 214 gives the Ducks some valuable added depth, especially since Christian French went down early with an injury.
Game ball giver: Marcus Mariota won a game ball after accounting for 337 yards and three tds for the Ducks, but he promptly awarded it to Mark Helfrich in honor of his first win as head coach (Scott Olmos, USA Today photo.)

Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota says it was a little strange seeing Mark Helfrich roaming the sideline during a game.
Helfrich spent the past four seasons watching the Ducks from up in the booth at Autzen Stadium as offensive coordinator.
But now that Chip Kelly has moved on to the NFL, Helfrich is getting a close-up view of the No. 3 Ducks.

EUGENE, Ore. – Ho hum. It wasn’t a surprise that the Oregon Ducks disposed of Nicholls State University 66-3 on Saturday afternoon at Autzen Stadium in front of 57,769 fans. It also wasn’t too much of a surprise that two new school records were set and certainly wasn’t a surprise that a new NCAA rule would rear up and caused a player to be ejected.
The 2013 edition of the Oregon Ducks are set to take the field, and they will do so to this baller stadium entrance video.
Unless you noticed the head coach on the sideline wasn't wearing a visor, things weren't much different offensively Saturday afternoon at Autzen Stadium where the No. 3 ranked Oregon Ducks stomped Nicholls State University 66-3.
Ducks dominated in the first half, scoring on every drive but that last one in taking a 38-3 lead. De'Anthony Thomas darted for 112 yards on 13 carries with two touchdowns. Marcus Mariota missed on a few throws, 7-16 passing for 146 yards and a touchdown to Bralon Addison, 4 runs for 87 yards and two touchdowns, including a nifty 46-yard dash in the second quarter.
