Temple Owls running back Matt Brown has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division’s offensive player of the week, the conference announced today. Brown, in his first start of the season, won the award for the second time in his career and his first this season.

Brown, who got the start in place of injured back Bernard Pierce, rushed for 121 yards on 24 carries and scored a touchdown as Temple defeated Miami (Ohio), 24-21. The junior also added 53 yards on four kick returns, and finished the game with 172 all-purpose yards.

The performance moved Brown to fourth all-time on the school’s 100-yard games list with the eighth such game of his career. He’s second on the team in rushing this season with 702 yards on 123 attempts (5.7 avg) in addition to leading the team in both punt and kick return yardage.

The win moved the Owls to 6-4, making them bowl-eligible for a third year in a row, a new school record. If Temple wins one more game, their senior class graduates as the winningest in school history with 29 victories.

Temple’s next game is against Army (3-7), on Saturday, November 19 at Lincoln Financial Field. It will be broadcast on ESPN3.com
