Texans coach Bill O'Brien said he looks forward to seeing more of former UCF quarterback Blake Bortles during the NFL Scouting Combine. O'Brien addressed the obvious — his many connections to Bortles — during his press conference at the combine Friday. O'Brien was coaching at Penn State when Bortles led UCF to a road win over the Nittany Lions. O'Brien has long considered UCF coach George O'Leary one of his mentors and is close friends with many members of the UCF staff that developed Bortles into a potential No. 1 pick. "We played against him at Central Florida and he played well," O'Brien said of Bortles. "They beat us and I thought he threw the ball well that night. Obviously, I have a connection with George O'Leary and their coaching staff thinks very highly of him there. "He's a big guy, he's athletic, he's a competitive guy. It’s been fun to watch him play on tape and it'll be good to watch him work out here." O'Brien, whose team has the No. 1 draft pick, said Houston was very much still evaluating a wide variety of players. He noted the record number of juniors who entered this year's draft added to the wealth of talent available. He said since he spent last season coaching at Penn State, it only added to the work he had to do evaluating talent. When asked whether the Texans had narrowed their draft prospects to a top five to 10 players, O'Brien said no, the evaluation process was still very much wide open. "I've watched a lot of exciting players, players with different skill sets, players that have a lot of really good skills," he said. "... There's a lot of guys to evaluate. I really enjoy that process."
