We pulled together 7 great moments for clutch play and leadership by a QB in college football history. From amazing scrambles to Hail Mary heaves we’ve got it all. Hook and Ladder Boise State needed a touchdown to send the 2007 Fiesta Bowl into overtime and in epic fashion they pulled off the most exciting play in college football, the “Hook and Ladder”. Quarterback Jared Zabransky threw 15 yards to Drisan James, who lateraled to Jerard Rabb for the final 35 yards. The Catch Graham Harrell threw a daring pass to Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech who caught the ball along the sideline with very little space. Crabtree had the presence of mind to stays in bounds and fights his way into the end zone to beat #7 Texas. Miracle In Michigan With no time left on the clock Colorado QB Kordell Stewart threw a 65-yard Hail Mary pass and Michael Westbrook was in the right place at the right time. Colorado wont he game 27-26 and the play is now called the “Miracle at Michigan.” 1992 Snow Bowl Down seven points with :25 left to play Notre Dame scored a touchdown and opted to go for two to win the game instead of kicking the field goal for overtime against Penn State. Notre Dame quarterback Rick Mirer connected with Reggie Brooks at the top of the end zone in what was one of the gutsiest moments in Irish history. Vince Young Carries Texas To The Title In one of the greatest individual plays in college football history, Texas quarterback Vince Young faced fourth-and-5 down 38-33 to USC with 19 seconds to play. Young ran the ball in for a touchdown and completed the two point conversion to give the Longhorns a 41-38 victory and their first national championship in 35 years. Johnny Football’s Heisman Moment Johnny Manziel was going up against defending national champions Alabama and pulled off this touchdown that not only helped his Aggies beat Alabama 29–24 in Tuscaloosa but also locked him as the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. Hail Flutie Doug Flutie’s Hail Mary pass is perhaps the signature moment in all of college football history. With :06 left on the clock Flutie heaved a 65-yard bomb that found Gerard Phelan in the end zone to give Boston College a huge 47-45 win over the defending national champions Miami.
