Wisconsin-michigan
With all the news of conference expansion a little nugget of football recruiting has gotten lost in the shuffle, Wisconsin has added added two more recruits to their 2013 class. With these two additions it's going to be really interesting to see if anyone else comes on board as the numbers are getting very stretched for who they can take in this class. The first of those named commitments to the Badgers should be a familiar name to Badgers fans. The last name Ball is continuing to become popular at Wisconsin and no we aren't talking about Montee Ball. Instead we are talking about Marcus Ball, the younger brother of current Badgers offensive lineman Ray Ball.  Unlike Ray Marcus isn't a big offensive lineman, but rather a consensus 3 star recruit from Westerville, OH. He is considered an athlete commit, but is likely a safety or linebacker at the next level. He was a two way star for Westerville South though as a dual threat quarterback, so in a pinch he could pl...

NLD Football Podcast - The Wisconsin preview and Big Ten expansion reaction

Maybe Danny O'Brien was on to something. Not even a full year after the quarterback decided to transfer from Maryland to Wisconsin, the Terrapins have announced they will leave the ACC for the big paydays to come in the Big Ten. On Monday the school was officially introduced by Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany as the conference's 13th member, and a day later Rutgers became...

Sunday Morning Hangover: Badgers Coming Close Just Isn't Good Enough Anymore

(photo courtesy M.P. King - Wisconsin State Journal) As painful as it was to sit back and watch Wisconsin lose 21-14 in overtime to hated rivals Ohio State yesterday, it was even more painful to put myself through watching it a 2nd time on the good ole DVR. After watching things over once again there's only one conclusion that you can come to: Coming so close, yet losing...

Brust leading Badgers on the glass

MADISON, Wis. The reasons for Ben Brust's dramatic increase in rebounding totals this season aren't entirely clear. Maybe it's more assertiveness as an upperclassman. Perhaps it's a measure of toughness or simply being in the right place on the court. Brust, Wisconsin's 6-foot-1, 195-pound off-guard, doesn't know why he leads the Badgers in rebounds after...

Badgers' Ball recognized for Walker Award

MADISON, Wis. For the second straight year, Wisconsin senior running back Montee Ball has been named one of three finalists for the Doak Walker Award, given to the top running back in college football. Ball joins Oregon's Kenjon Barner and UCLA's Jonathan Franklin as finalists this year. He is the third Wisconsin player to be named a Doak Walker Award finalist, along with...

Badgers played good game and still fell short

MADISON, Wis. Well, at least Wisconsin's football team knows how to make things interesting in defeat. Ohio State edged Wisconsin, 21-14, in overtime Saturday afternoon at Camp Randall Stadium, marking the Badgers' second straight overtime loss at home this season. The margin actually represents Wisconsin's most lopsided loss of the year because the Badgers had lost...

Badgers & Brust Destroy the Blue Hose

The Badgers (3-1) tallied their third win of the season and won their second game in the Las Vegas Invintational after blowing out the Presbyterian Blue Hose 88-43 at the Kohl Center. It was a satisfactory effort for Wisconsin, who seemingly didn't miss a beat the whole game. Despite lackluster performances from the Senior Trio of Mike Bruesewitz, Jared Berggren and Ryan...

Hirschfeld's Big Double Dip in Madison

Game Recap: The Big Red Machine

Senior forward Jared Berggren and junior guard Ben Brust each scored 18 points, as No.22 Wisconsin bounced back from its first loss of the season to blast Cornell, 73-40, in the opening round of the Las Vegas Invitational at the Kohl Center Sunday.

Game Recap: A Full-Blown Hosing

Wisconsin got four players in double figures, another double-double from junior guard Ben Brust and shot 16-for-37 from 3-point range, as Wisconsin crushed Presbyterian, 88-43, in the second game of the Las Vegas Invitational at the Kohl Center Tuesday.

College football: Tailgater best and worst of week 12

Just when we thought the National Championship picture was coming into focus, the top two teams in the nation are knocked from atop the standings.  Kansas State was steamrolled by an unexpectedly good Baylor team, and once that game went final Notre Dame fans everywhere went crazy.  Alabama fans had to wait a bit longer for their celebration; Stanford didn’t beat Oregon until...

Wisconsin stumbles into Big Ten championship game

Wisconsin isn't about to apologize. Yes, the Badgers (7-4, 4-3) are stumbling into the Big Ten title game after a 21-14 overtime loss to No. 4 Ohio State on Saturday. Currently third in the Leaders Division, they've basically been gifted a shot at playing for the Rose Bowl because the Buckeyes and Penn State, the two teams ahead of them, are ineligible for the postseason...

College Fantasy Football: Champs and Chumps, Week 12

Champs of the Week:1. Montel Harris, RB, Temple- 351 rushing yards, 7 TD’sAfter last week’s injury, it looked like a very good possibility that Harris wouldn’t even play in the game against Army. Hope that didn’t deter anyone from playing him this week! Harris finished the game with 351 yards rushing and seven (yes, seven!) touchdowns in the win over Army. Both numbers were...

Buckeyes Survive Resilient Badgers in 21-14 OT Thriller

It's a pretty safe assumption that when you turn on your TV set for Wisconsin vs. Ohio State your about to see something crazy and once again these two delivered as Ohio State remained unbeaten with a 21-14 overtime victory. All this result told us is that Ohio State is good, good enough to outlast the best efforts of their opponents and in the end isn't the W all that matters...
