TUCSON, Ariz. -- Will he or wont he? Apparently we wont get a good indication right now as to whether Arizona quarterback Matt Scott will play this weekend against Utah in Salt Lake City.
On Monday, Arizona Rich Rodriguez didnt even go there with a verbal answer, preferring to shake his head with a no when asked if he had any update on Scotts status.
I just made it, Rodriguez said, smiling when he said it.
When asked if Scott has progressed from the concussion he suffered against UCLA last week, Rodriguez said, again with a smile, I just made it.
He did applaud the attending media at his weekly press conference for trying to get to the answer by going through the back and side doors in asking.
Youll get the injury report, just as always, Rodriguez said, referring to his weekly release that comes out Thursday afternoon.
Until then, its likely UA will continue with what worked last week in a 56-31 rout of Colorado.
Junior quarterback B.J. Denker will be ready. He did well against Colorado in the win, completing 12 of 14 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 44 rushing yards.
His decision-making was pretty much spot on, with maybe four or five plays hed like to have back, Rodriguez said of Denker. That was the part we were really pleased with. He was late on a throw or two, a read or two on some of the read-option stuff. But I thought he was really composed. I thought some of the speed option stuff where
he took off for first downs were big plays for us.
Scott was having a huge year for UA until the injury more than nine days ago. He has passed for 2, 848 yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 62.7 percent of his passes.
UA running back KaDeem Carey was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Carey became the sixth Wildcats player to be honored this week, including three on special teams and two on defense.
On Sunday, Carey was named the College Football Performance Awards National Performer of the Week and the National Running Back of the Week.
Carey rushed for a Pac-12-record 366 yards, the ninth-highest single-game total in FBS history, on 25 carries and scored five touchdowns against Colorado. He broke the previous conference record of 357 yards, which had stood for 28 years and passed the school record of 288 set by Trung Canidate in 1998.
He also had 400 all-purpose yards, breaking a 58-year-old school, and tied the conference record with his five scores.
HILL MOVING UP
UA sophomore wide receiver Austin Hill on Monday was named one of 10 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nations top receiver.
Hill leads Arizona in receiving with 62 receptions and 1,023 yards. He averages 102.3 yards per game -- ranking third in the Pac-12 and 11th nationally -- and 16.5 yards per catch.
