LSU receives top honor despite having fewer first-place votes than Tide, Trojans
LSU, Alabama and USC lead the preseason coaches poll.
If the coaches have it right, the LSU Tigerswill reign supreme this college football season, by a narrow margin.
LSU received 18 first place votes in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll to squeeze by one of the tightest preseason coaches polls at the top in recent memory. LSU edged No. 2 Alabama by a total of four points despite the defending BCS champion Crimson Tide receiving 20 first-place votes. No. 3 USC also received more first-place votes (19) from the coaches but trail LSU in the total points by just 15 points.
