While all news circulating the USC program began and ended with Silas Redd on Thursday, the Trojans suffered a major blow to another area with huge depth concerns ---the defensive line. According to reports USC senior defensive end Devon Kennard tore his pectoral muscle and is expected to have surgery as early as next week. The injury could cause Kennard to miss the entire 2012 season. Kennard tweeted from handle @DevonKennard42 early Friday morning: "Appreciate all the love and prayers... Don't worry about me too much, I was born to FightOn after all" If running back depth is 1A on the list of concerns for head coach Lane Kiffin, the defensive line is 1B. "We've got to get our defensive linemen that haven't played to have a great camp," said Kiffin at Pac-12 Media Day. "We're going to have to develop depth if we're going to be successful this year because you better rotate guys in there as we've learned the first couple of years." Kennard, who was recruited as a defensive end out of Desert Vista High School (Arizona) in 2009, started eight games at middle linebacker as a sophomore in 2010. He moved back to defensive end and made five starts last season. He was scheduled to be a starter opposite Wes Horton in 2012. While there are more bodies to choose from on the defensive line, they certainly lack experience. Redshirt freshman Greg Townsend Jr. was listed behind Kennard on the Trojans depth chart at the conclusion of spring practice. Redshirt junior Kevin Greene, junior college transfer Morgan Breslin, and incoming freshman Leonard Williams are also possibilities to play in Kennard's absence. Greene is the lone player in the aforementioned group to play a down at the Division I level and he has three career tackles. Kennard has started 18 games throughout his USC career. He does have a redshirt year available to him.
