After Virginia Tech finished up its spring practices, the Hokies running back Michael Holmes was booked into the Montgomery County jail on two counts of simple assault and one count of Malicious wounding, this according to Mike Barber of the Times Dispatch.
The details behind the arrest have not been fully specified but it is said that Holmes was involved in a bar fight, and is being held without bail. Malicious wounding is considered a Class A felony in the state of Virginia, so if he is found guilty of this or any of the other counts it’s unlikely he’ll be suiting up this year.
Virginia Tech has not issued any statements regarding the situation, but according to the athletic department policy Holmes will be suspended until the matter is resolved.
This is a big blow to the team, as a freshman for the Hokies last season, Holmes rushed 70 times for 280 yards and led the team with four touchdowns. He was also considered to be emerging as a back who could start for VT this fall.
