It was pretty cool a couple of years ago when NFL Films released the ‘The Greatest Game Ever Played’ between the Giants and the Colts in color. It really brought the game alive visually. But this Army-Navy game may even be cooler. Here is footage of their game from 1939, a game in which Navy won 10-0. Up until that point, Army had dominated the series. Navy would win five straight. Not only was the video unearthed, but so was the newspaper write up for it. Read this and tell me you don’t hear John Facenda’s voice in your head: Its hostile operations often shrouded in heavy fog, Navy won its first gridiron victory over Army since 1936 here this muggy afternoon before a record crowd of 120,000 and a “gate” of nearly $500,000. Interestingly, many of these players most likely fought overseas following this game as we would enter into World War 2 almost two years later to the day. H/T Off the Bench
