This past Saturday, South Carolina fans — and Steve Spurrier — were shocked when Jadeveon Clowney went to the head coach and told him he wouldn’t be playing against Kentucky. Spurrier himself was very surprised by the news (Clowney had even been announced with the starting lineups) and sounded off after the game, saying “If he doesn’t want to play, he doesn’t have to play.” Spurrier later backed off the comments, stating that Clowney was hurt with “a muscle strain near his rib area” and that South Carolina fans should be grateful for his presence even if he never plays another game for the Gamecocks. Tonight, Clowney spoke to the media to address the situation. In short, he confirmed that he is hurt, and indicated hat he can’t run right now, although he is still doing curls and other activities. He described his injury as “pulled muscles and tendons near his ribs” but said he is committed to South Carolina and has not played his last game for the school. Here’s a video of his full Q&A with the media, via The Big Spur: This is actually good news for South Carolina fans — he’s not quitting the team. However, it does seem as if the injury is pretty serious, as nobody is willing to place a timetable on his return. Best of luck to Jadeveon in his recovery.
